Vikings sign Will Sutton

Defensive tackle Will Sutton won’t be with the Bears in 2017, but he may be facing them twice.

Sutton was released by the Bears earlier this month, but his time on the unemployment line has come to an end. The Vikings announced on Wednesday that they have signed Sutton to their 90-man roster.

Sutton was a third-round pick by the Bears in 2014 and played in 36 games over his first three seasons. He started half of those games and recorded 60 tackles while playing on a¬†front that went from a 4-3 to a 3-4 when Vic Fangio was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator after his rookie season.

Sutton will vie for playing time as part of a defensive tackle group that also includes Linval Joseph, Sharrif Floyd, Tom Johnson and 2017 fourth-rounder Jaleel Johnson.

Uh oh, yet another sign that Sharif Floyd’s career may be over?

From one rebuilding team to another.

They might get something from Sutton. High motor guy drafted by Emery/Trestman… right before they got fired. When Pace/Fox went to a 3-4 base, Sutton was done… too small for NT, too short for DE, too slow for OLB. Could be a decent agitator in the tackle rotation, might get them a few pressures and sacks.

After scraping out the bottom of Soldiers Field’s dumpster, Speildolt was seen scurrying north up I-41 towards “Title Town” in hopes of getting an early afternoon peak under the lid of Lambeau’s trash receptacle.

Moving up, from the 4th place team in the NFC North to the 3rd place team. Although there are some who foresee them switching places in 2017.

Stole Datone Jones from the Packers and now Sutton from the Bears. Rick is making a career on the terrible management and coaching in the NFCN. These guys are lucky to finally have a coach that will put them in position to succeed.

Great guy……good player. He is an unfortunate casualty of the defensive scheme switch. If Fangio were a 4-3 guy, guaranteed this guy would be his starting 3-technique DT.

When is that succeeding going to start?

As noted by grizzlott, the guy no longer fit in a defensive scheme switched to a 3-4 format, and could be a depth fit with the Vikes if Floyd’s nerve/knee damage doesn’t heal. However, it now seems like we have as many DTs as liquor stores in WI.

I thought Sutton was going to be a great player. Maybe the change will be good

He’s not a 3-4 guy. He will do much better in a 4-3 or at the very least be given a much better opportunity. Good Luck Will and welcome to the Vikings.

I hope he does well in his new home.

    Be well, Will…..
