Packers sign second-rounder Josh Jones

The Packers used four draft picks on defensive players last month. Both of their second-round picks play in the secondary. Both are now under contract.

PFT has confirmed that the Packers have agreed to terms with second-round safety Josh Jones. The 61st overall pick played college football at North Carolina State and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds at the Scouting Combine.

The Packers apparently plan to use Jones in various ways, from safety to linebacker to slot corner and more.

“In college, I played some linebacker. I played everywhere,” Jones recently told the team’s official website. “I kind of knew that whatever team drafted me would have some packages for me.”

The infusion of young talent on the defensive side of the ball could be just what the Packers need, if enough of the youngsters can figure out how to make an impact at the NFL level quickly.

We needed speed on defense and we addressed that in the draft. With the addition of Bennett to the offense, I don’t see any of the NFC north teams competing.

Should be 2-3 TD routs by the Packers in each game, sweeping the division.

Mr. Josh is going wreak havoc on many a QB as well as WRs. His size and speed are freakish. He can play close to the line and cover deep. Can’t wait to watch him smash the barneys fred samford into the league’s concussion protocol.

Can you imagine being drafted by the Packers?

    Perennial division winners.

More championships than any other team.

    Best fans on the planet.

It’s a dream come true for these lucky young men.

Both of their second-round picks play in the secondary. Both are now under contract. Both will suck eggs under Dom Capers and Mike McCarthy.

  7. filthymcnasty3 says: May 19, 2017 5:10 PM

He goes beyond all out – he goes to 11.

  8. mnrasslinggovjesse says: May 19, 2017 5:22 PM

If he can cover TEs and RBs and spy on running QBs, he’ll be a great help. The challenge for him as with most young guys will be the mental part.

CBs usually take 2 or 3 years to adapt to the NFL…. allowing 35 plus points and 3 or 4 PI calls per game in store for the Packers.

Johnson looks like a player…calling the Vikings the barneys is really tired and corny though…seriously…

That the best you got? We went to the nfccg with out current starter and then added three more so I think we are all set thanks.

    Funny

These were the exact same words used to describe Lacy when he was drafted.

Despite poor defensive performances, the Packers still own the Vikings. The Vikings had their chance to catch the Packers by bringing in “Sure-Thing Bradford,” but they blew the opportunity.

Now, with guys like Josh Jones and other key draftees, it won’t even be close.

And you call Viking fans delusional. Congratulations on signing your second round pick. I’m sure he’ll make a huge difference.

Another Ted Thompson, All-Pro defensive draft pick. He follows in the footsteps of other future HOFers like BJ Raji, Justin Harrell, Datone Jones and Damarius Randall. This Packer defense is loaded.

Yeah, but in Harriet’s defense, she just wasn’t the same after Lacy trucked her into oblivion.

How many SB victories have the Packers had in this millennia? One…..but they have done a lot of choking though….. Aaron Rogers is looking a lot more like Andy Dalton than like Tom Brady

Well, BJ did make the pro bowl when he played at his natural position of NT. But yeah, Datone sucked so bad the Vikings were willing to give him a $5 million dollar contract next year.

The rest of the Vikings’ players wouldn’t even have any resale value at one of Bud Grant’s garage sales.

  27. hogbuster7 says: May 19, 2017 8:51 PM

Love this guy, I read somewhere they say this guy would love to hit you just as soon as look at you. Exactly what this defense needs it’s been too finesse for too many years. With King and Jones coming in with the acquisition of Davone House to add to the Clinton-Dix and Burnett safety tandem the Packers are quietly putting together a top secondary.

  28. mj323 says: May 19, 2017 10:31 PM

Too bad Capers is still running the defense. He has this magical thing where he turns players that should be great into nobodies.

  29. whatjusthapped says: May 19, 2017 11:19 PM

I refuse to do what Viking fans do all the time; project greatness on to a draft choice before they even played a down in the NFL. Sure fire 1st rounders like Ryan Leaf, Matt Kalil and Christian Ponder sometimes don’t work out to the dismay of their teams.

But one thing Ted Thompson has done differently this time around is that he has drafted pure speed. That is God given and you can’t coach that if the player doesn’t bring it in with him. Both Josh Jones and Kevin King are fast, very fast, so now its on Capers to get them to play football.

The real wildcard is Randall and Rollins returning to their rookie year form.

  31. fearsome4 says: May 20, 2017 4:00 AM

Wisconsin. Are you one of the states that flipped the election for Trump? You guys suck. Glad to hear you beefed up your football team’s defense tough. That will come in handy during the coming apocalypse.

with the free agents the Packers have signed and the ready to play top draft picks, they may win to start the season instead of having to win 6 in a row to make the playoffs

  33. monkeyboymotors says: May 20, 2017 7:42 AM

Have no fear Dom will coach them down to busts and they will sign with another team and salvage their careers, and then they will be as good as some of the above posts.

  34. packsucks says: May 20, 2017 9:43 AM

  36. cheeseisfattening says: May 20, 2017 11:59 AM

The first 4 guys posting on here are talking like this guy is already Ronnie Lott and he has yet to play a down in the NFL. And Packer fans say the Viking fans celebrate in the offseason too much! How about you take a look in your own back yard sometimes! 😛
