Report: Jets have spoken to Ravens about Eric Decker trade

The Ravens’ Thursday visit with Jeremy Maclin didn’t result in a deal, but he’s not the only veteran receiver who could fill out the team’s depth chart.

The Jets are trying to trade Eric Decker and Albert Breer of reports that the Ravens are one of the teams they have spoken to about a potential deal.

Decker would make sense for a Ravens team looking to add an experienced hand after losing Steve Smith to retirement and tight end Dennis Pitta to another hip injury. Decker was slowed by injuries last season, but scored 17 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Jets and caught at least 74 passes in every season from 2012-2015.

If the Jets aren’t able to trade Decker, they are expected to release him so the Ravens may not have to give up any compensation to bring him to Baltimore. They’d run the risk of Decker signing with another club under that scenario, though, and a late-round pick might be worth it to give Joe Flacco another option for his passes.

if you mentioned the salary baltimore would have to assume in the trade, the reader would have more idea whether giving up something before he is released is worth it.

Jets: High Ozzie. We have a guy we are going to cut. Will you give us anything for him?

    Ravens: laughter, then silence

The Ravens have about 7Mil in cap space, after releasing Pitta, if I’m not mistaken.
It would be nice to know what the Jets are asking in the trade.

Assume the Jets are looking for a 5th rounder, but probably wont even get that. And to everyone saying why would the ravens make a trade for a guy the Jets are going to cut, its to lock him in. If he becomes an FA they have to bid on him and against other teams. Its not rocket science, its either lock him up, or take a chance and given their need for a reciever, it could easily happen. If Maclin isnt on the market right now, I think the Jets swing this trade no problem.

And his cap hit is 7.5 million.
