Saints explore trading Travaris Cadet

AP

Just three months after signing him to a one-year contract, the Saints are exploring trading running back Travaris Cadet.

The Saints are considering trying to trade Cadet before camp, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

In March Cadet signed a one-year, $855,000 contract with an $80,000 signing bonus, so he’d be affordable for any team that’s interested in acquiring him in a trade, and inexpensive for the Saints to release if no team wants to trade for him.

Last year the Saints used Cadet primarily as a receiver out of the backfield, and he caught 40 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns. When they re-signed him they envisioned a similar role for him this year, but since then New Orleans has signed Adrian Peterson and drafted Alvin Kamara, making the running back depth chart a lot more crowded. Cadet may be the odd man out.

They’re not going to get anything for Cadet. They should release him so that he’ll have time to hook on with another team.

He’s got a very reasonable contract and he’s a good 3rd down back.

    He’d be worth a 6th or 7th rounder easy.

    Easy out.

Typical Payton. He thinks this guy has value, the rest of the league thinks he’s insane.

What Payton would really like would be a draft pick he could use to then trade up for a third-down back or a punter and decimate the 2019 draft. He seems to have no idea how the draft should work and that only fools repeatedly trade up.

So, Adrian Peterson is going to be their receiving back? Makes sense.

Cadet is a solid player but no one is giving up a draft pick for him.

Cadet is a dime a dozen, being a Saints fan myself, I’ve been hoping he’d get released sooner or later, very average player…

Payton prefers players that are intelligent, follow instructions, and have good character. In othr words, he likes players who are “coachable.” Cadet has proven to be just that.

It always cracks me up to see all the experts second guessing his strategy. How has he ever consistently coached the greatest offense in NFL history, year after year, without you guys’ expertise?
