Report: Jeremy Maclin expected to pick team on Monday

Getty Images

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin made visits with the Bills and Ravens last week, but he remains a free agent as this week gets underway.

That’s not expected to be the case for too much longer. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the two teams believe they will hear Maclin’s decision about where he will continue his playing career on Monday.

Maclin visited the Bills first last week, but the end result of both visits was that he wanted more time to plot out his direction in the wake of his release by the Chiefs earlier this month. There does not appear to be any other teams in the mix for Maclin’s services at the moment.

Assuming Maclin does go to either Buffalo or Baltimore, the team that doesn’t land him could look to acquire Eric Decker. The Jets are still trying to trade the veteran — they’ve reportedly spoken to the Ravens — and they are expected to release him if they are unable to make a deal.

Buffalo or Baltimore. Two towns we went on vacation to when I was a kid.

You can call any town or city a dump etc but it’s 5% of the people who keep the rest of us on our toes.

You can get it anywhere at anytime if your number is up. I have nothing bad to say about anywhere in the USA.

I rode my bike through Harlem and Washington Heights (I’m a white guy) a zillion times and never had one problem. Yeah, there are some bad places but there are quite a few survival tricks, if you have any kind of street smarts.

So pick the team that will make you happy. It’s real cold in Buffalo but your body adjusts. The Ravens are an odd team because they’re never great (post Reed/Lewis) nor that bad.

Stop bashing the towns and places. Most people are good people. This coming from a retired cop who spent 20 years in ‘the hood’ . Most weren’t born into success, just born into a horror show, that’s hard to escape.

Maclin best choice is Buffalo. They have the type of offense and the players to execute that offense that fits Maclin to a tee.

  11. jmb82 says: Jun 12, 2017 9:38 AM

Bills or Ravens…does it really matter? Neither team is going anywhere anytime soon. The Patriots and Steelers are the favorites in their divisions, the West will get 2 playoff spots, so that will leave 2-3 teams scraping for that last spot. Neither the Bills or Ravens have looked good enough to win a road playoff game.

I think at this point the Bills have more of an upside, they don’t have a QB with a huge contract.

  12. corkspop says: Jun 12, 2017 9:46 AM

So, if it’s up to Maclin to decide, it’s likely that both teams made offers and neither was the big contract he expected. There is still some mystery as to why he was let go and why there are only two suitors.

  13. EJ says: Jun 12, 2017 9:48 AM

Maclin will fair much better in Buffalo… the system fits his skills and he is pretty much guaranteed the #2 spot across Watkins with Zay Jones filling the slot. The familiarity with the coaching staff & players is there, but if it’s a money issue expect him to sign with the ravens. The days of the Buffalo Bills overpaying for star players through free agency or players that were outright dumped from their former teams is over. The new regime in Buffalo means business and they are going to rid of any old bad habits that plagued this team throughout the playoff drought.
The word that came after Maclin left Buffalo was that he was not happy with the one year incentive-laden contract the Bills were offering. I am not sure what the Ravens offered, but I am pretty sure the two teams were not that far off with contract offers, otherwise he probably would have signed right away instead of leaving Baltimore to “Think about it”.
If Baltimore doesn’t sign Maclin they will sign Decker… they need much more help at receiver than Buffalo does. The Bills have Holmes to take the #2 spot if Maclin decides to go elsewhere. I don’t think they are interested in Decker… It’s Maclin or Holmes for Buffalo in 2017/18.

We almost swept the steelers and took the division last year.If the Ravens are healthy, the AFCN is 100 percent up for grabs just as it always is.

I disagree. Tyrod Taylor is a runner. He doesn’t distribute the ball enough to his receivers. Joe on the other hand is trying to get it to his receivers. If I’m a receiver, looking for a gig, I’m looking for a guy that wants to throw the ball. Baltimore should be the choice. Unless Baltimore doesn’t want him.

  16. steveno9784 says: Jun 12, 2017 9:51 AM

I don’t know, I’m a Baltimore fan and I think they should pass. They’ve been obviously not that good since the super bowl and they keep this trend up of signing older receivers every couple years and then get rid of them. If the ravens love to stick to the excuse that joe flacco never has continuity then I think they should just groom the young guys, even if Ozzie has never been good at drafting WRs

  17. eagleswin says: Jun 12, 2017 9:56 AM

As long as he isn’t trying to break the bank, whoever signs him is getting a very good WR. He should have at 2-3 excellent years left in him.

I would love to see him as an Eagle again on a short term deal but I don’t think it is in the cards.

  18. lifetimefan says: Jun 12, 2017 10:07 AM

Not every team has an elite QB like the Ravens…….thank god, I’d pick the Bills.

  19. nhpats says: Jun 12, 2017 10:10 AM

If Maclin wants a chance to play for the Pats…..Buffalo is a good choice. The have become the Patriots’s farm team.

  20. pastabelly says: Jun 12, 2017 10:34 AM

He’s about to hit 30 and is coming off of his worst season in a career where he has proven to be a solid #2 receiver. It really doesn’t make a difference where he goes because he is not a difference maker. He played in two playoff games for KC and averaged less than 27 yards per game in them. As a Patriots fan, I hope he stays in the AFC and some team overpays him.

  21. gah05 says: Jun 12, 2017 10:35 AM

At the end of the day, 80% decision I would imagine is based on $$

Yeah, that Chris Hogan is nasty. I bet if he stayed in Buffalo he would have led the Bills to the playoffs and Tom Brady would have been helpless, probably would have gone 0-16.

That Mike Gillislee too – how he was pulled off the Dolphins scrap heap and stepped in to replace the legendary Karlos “Fats” Williams I’ll never know.

I dunno. I’m of two minds on this subject:
On the one hand, Jeremy Maclin would definitely help the Bills offense and he might be the final piece to get them to the playoffs. Provided their piss poor defense left town with Rex and Rob.

On the other hand, I would like a crack at one the California quarterbacks or the big kid from Wyoming in next year’s draft and our two number one picks could be attractive in a package deal. But everyone needs to get in line behind the Jets who are poised for a one win season.

In the same what if game, the Steelers almost swept the Ravens last year, and when the Steelers are healthy(or banged up)they are still the team to beat right now.
