Michael Irvin wants an MMA fight

Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin is 51 years old, but the competitive juices are still flowing.

Irvin told TMZ that he’s been training in mixed martial arts and would like to see if he can book an actual fight, not just a sparring session, although his wife is begging him not to.

“I train MMA. I want to do it,” Irvin said. “I actually wouldn’t mind getting in and having a fight. Oh, my God, I would love to take a fight. What I wish they would do is maybe do some amateur MMA fighting, celebrity-style.”

A celebrity MMA tournament would probably draw good ratings. FOX once aired a celebrity boxing event that drew 15.5 million viewers. Irvin could even fight his former Cowboys teammate Herschel Walker, who would be the favorite because he’s already had two pro MMA fights, but who’s older than Irvin at 55.

If Irvin is serious about it, it’s safe to say there are going to be some fight promoters willing to make him an offer.

    No scissors.

I would love to see Irvin in an MMA or UFC fight. And I would hope he’d get his big mouth shut once and for all.

    Line starts to the left.

  5. araidersfan says: Jul 17, 2017 8:34 AM

Michael Irvin has been busy guy these days as shown by the fact that he’s been great mentor for Ezekiel Elliott.

Did Irvin check to see if the MMA tournament does any testing for crack?

  6. mrcmos says: Jul 17, 2017 8:38 AM

    Just go away!

  7. bmorepositive123 says: Jul 17, 2017 8:39 AM

His only condition is that its not fought on the Vet turf

  8. jwf239 says: Jul 17, 2017 8:39 AM

Haven’t seen Herschel’s fights but I’m pretty sure he’d stomp Irvin, and I’d love to see it.

  9. The Truth says: Jul 17, 2017 8:40 AM

Yeah but you didn’t add he wants to fight a woman

  10. chiefsfolife says: Jul 17, 2017 8:41 AM

Irvin, please just stop, you wouldn’t stand a chance in an MMA fight. Dude is likely just desperate for attention and above all else….money. Cocaine is a helluva drug!

  11. SidFarkus says: Jul 17, 2017 8:43 AM

I wanna see this mouth get pummeled

  12. streetyson says: Jul 17, 2017 8:49 AM

“I train MMA. I want to do it,” Irvin said.

But not everyone is into so much Medallions, Mammaries & Anabolics that they consider it an actual way of life, Mikey, let alone to shorten the name to those initials. I suggest you google it.

  13. cobrala2 says: Jul 17, 2017 8:54 AM

If there is cocaine in it, yes it’s obvious the juices are flowing for Irvin again.

  14. whenwilliteverend says: Jul 17, 2017 9:01 AM

I’d love to see someone shut his mouth.

  15. nj22 says: Jul 17, 2017 9:12 AM

Herschel had a couple MMA fights but he has been doing marshal arts his whole life, he would kill Irvin.

  16. birdsfan7 says: Jul 17, 2017 9:16 AM

At least he doesn’t have to worry about brain damage

  17. joetoronto says: Jul 17, 2017 9:20 AM

I don’t follow the MMA but I’d gladly buy the PPV to watch somebody pummel this fool next week.

Maybe he’d stop giving the forecast everytime he tries to speak.

I don’t think anyone is opposed to watching Michael Irvin fight someone, or to at least hear about it. Whether you think he should fight because he’s training for it, because you like him, or because you want someone to shut him up.

I don’t mind listening to him from time to time. I like listening to former players for their experiences, not so much former player opinion. I appreciate it when a former player proves their value in the craft of covering sports. Irvin is more of a player-friendly role model, which is certainly needed and I understand that. Not everyone needs to have the same personality and role.

  19. r8rsfan says: Jul 17, 2017 10:02 AM

Cuz what we all need is more Michael Irvin.

  20. imsomeguy says: Jul 17, 2017 10:02 AM

So he retired from the NFL due to a spinal issue where one hit could paralyze him, but he wants to try something where all you do is get hit…

  21. collectordude says: Jul 17, 2017 10:03 AM

    CTE must be kicking in.
    Guy’s 50 years old.

  22. nhpats says: Jul 17, 2017 10:17 AM

    Chuck Norris vs Michael Irvin

  23. yoursoulcollector says: Jul 17, 2017 10:19 AM

Will say anything to keep name in media.

  24. stipez says: Jul 17, 2017 10:25 AM

Fight Sapp. Not in the octagon, just on the set or in the parking lot.

  25. thegreatmorpheos says: Jul 17, 2017 10:42 AM

I’d pay to see someone punch him in the mouth.

  26. thegreatmorpheos says: Jul 17, 2017 10:42 AM

I’d pay to see someone punch him in the mouth.

  27. granadafan says: Jul 17, 2017 11:11 AM

Isn’t he supposed to be babysitting Ezekiel Elliot and keeping him out of trouble with the law?

  28. patsfan4lifesbchamps says: Jul 17, 2017 11:21 AM

Does he know you don’t wear helmet and pads in MMA?

  29. orangedestroyer says: Jul 17, 2017 11:24 AM

    Go for it.
Hopefully he gets the crap beat out of him.

  30. GenXJ says: Jul 17, 2017 11:24 AM

Thought he was featured in one of those claymation fights a while back.
Anyhow, I think most people would like to see him in an MMA fight. That, or, really want to punch him in the face themselves.

  31. mathandstatsmatter says: Jul 17, 2017 12:00 PM

Irvin is an elite tough guy with old man strength. I would bet on Irvin in a brawl. I assume a skilled Gracie Jiu-Jitsu guy would submit him quickly though.

  32. winningisabrees says: Jul 17, 2017 12:23 PM

I thought he was off the bugga sugga

  33. arcross12042004scorp15 says: Jul 17, 2017 12:27 PM

I will gladly watch the KO on youtube afterward and not put a dime in this guy’s pocket. Hopefully, it would be a Michael Spinks- Mike Tyson KO where Irvin goes airborne.

  34. captainobvious says: Jul 17, 2017 12:38 PM

I’ve seen this guy in a nightclub once…he looked like a man in a boys body. I remember thinking how weak he looked. There’s no way this guy is going to win a fight.

  35. vavikingfan says: Jul 17, 2017 12:46 PM

On the bright side it couldn’t do any brain damage.

  36. onebuffalove716 says: Jul 17, 2017 12:49 PM

He knows that the only time he played. Tough guy was in a movie right?

  37. backuppunter says: Jul 17, 2017 1:12 PM

I would love to see some some guy or gal half his size beat the snot out of him, not damage him permanatly just beat him up good

  38. tamedstallion31 says: Jul 17, 2017 1:21 PM

Not a Irvin fan in the least, but I’d pay good money to see him knock ‘Zeke out, both are punks

  39. jayniner says: Jul 17, 2017 1:22 PM

I don’t think it’s the competitive juices that are flowing through his veins……I think it’s the competitive cocaine flowing through his nose.

  40. eddiea25 says: Jul 17, 2017 1:26 PM

    Broke.

  41. kneedragr says: Jul 17, 2017 1:41 PM

Well Ezekiel Elliott is out there KO’ing guys on the street, why not let him fight Irvin with the proceeds going to abused women.

  42. buckyhamm says: Jul 17, 2017 2:07 PM

Crack is a helluva drug !

  43. cookerduff123 says: Jul 17, 2017 2:11 PM

Sorry Mikey, they will require a drug test.

  44. johnodocks says: Jul 17, 2017 2:36 PM

Didn’t this guy have to retire from football because of concussion issues?

  45. jspyle says: Jul 17, 2017 2:46 PM

Michael, Michael, Michael. Put down the crack pipe buddy. An NFL Hall of Famer you are (much respect). An MMA fighter you are not.
