Tom Brady still not willing to give quarterbacks from other teams pointers

AP

When the Patriots had joint practices two years ago with Washington, quarterback Robert Griffin III hoped to pick the brain of quarterback Tom Brady. Brady declined.

With the Texans and Patriots spending a couple of days this week practicing this week in West Virginia, Brady spent some time visiting with Houston rookie Deshaun Watson. So what advice did Brady share with the new guy?

Apparently, none.

“Yeah, most of the time it’s on your own team,” Brady said regarding whether he provided pointers to Watson. “You’re trying to help the guys you play with. As an older player you kind of pass along words of advice daily in every meeting. You meet other players in the league, younger players, and whether it’s joint practices or other opportunities in the offseason, it’s nice to meet a lot of guys. I’ve got a lot of respect for this team. We play them a lot. I feel like I know all of their players, so it was a good couple of days of work.”

In other words, Brady won’t be helping out any quarterback he may be facing this year, and Watson definitely fits that bill.

  1. All the pointers you need are in the tapes of the old Joe Gibbs’ offense. Belichick was a defensive coordinator back then, and while everyone else was fascinated with the west coast offense, Belichick had more respect for what Joe Gibbs was doing. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Joe Gibbs was so good he didn’t require a HOF QB. The west coast offense did. Belichick has the best of both worlds. A HOF QB, and the best offense ever. Brady can’t teach other QBs how to be great, but I can point them in the right direction. Now Gibbs is a dominant force in auto racing. The guy is pure genius. Belichick understands that.

  2. Cheaters never reveal their secrets. Brady, the QB with the most under 3 point or under SB wins. 5 SB games won by a total of 17 points, and not 1 blowout SB win. That’s Brady’s factual record. Way overrated.

  3. Be on a team that keeps the same HC, basically the same OC so same system and throw more TDs than ints….. It’s not brain surgery….

I maintain he would be much like Matt Cassel… Matt went like 11-5 in Pats system and never anywhere else…. EXTREMELY doubt Brady would do much better than Cassel on another team!

  4. With all those concussions, he probably can’t remember half of how he did what he did. And with all his underhanded practices, he probably doesn’t want to reveal the other half.

  5. Why would any QB want to get pointers on the Patriots system? Pretty sure their teams don’t run the same system so what pointers could Tom even give unless it’s how to hide or destroy evidence.

Goes to show how behind these other teams are, though. The QB’s are asking for pointers, the Patriots don’t ask, they just send low level staff to other teams practices and record them. Or most recently, send drones.

  6. Actually, Brady did give RGIII some advice. He said “please realize that you are not the center of the universe. And keep your Dad out of the locker room.”

  7. Well, he must have changed his mind because I read at least three news articles after this one that said Tom Brady gave DeShaun Watson pointers after their joint practice today.

    Cheaters don’t share.

Thats why you don’t hear the Denver Broncos give advice on taping other teams practices 🙂

The only team in the history of the NFL to be fined for doing so.

    🙂

  9. Cheer up Patriot Hater! 🙂 Football is almost here and you get to once again witness historical greatness when Tom Brady and the World Champion Patriots get to whoop your limp wristed puny little weakling team and laugh while they are doing it 🙂 Just like I do!

Don’t be mad 🙂 It really is an honor and a privilege to get whooped by the very greatest this league has ever seen and if we’re being honest…ever will see.

    🙂

  10. Do you think Tom Brady laughs at the weaklings he gets to face on the field every week?

I do. If we are being honest I don’t blame him. I’d laugh too.

    🙂

Too bad the Seahawks passed it to Malcolm Butler 🙂 Just think… it could have been only 4 SB games won but it was your fault it wasn’t! 🙂 Too bad the Legion of Bums weren’t man enough to stop the GOAT in crunch time 🙂

  12. Didn’t know that Brady was supposed to become a part-time quarterback coach for another team, the Texans, for free, Mike. Thanks for clearing that up!

  13. What pointers? Any QB can do what Brady does within the Patriots system. Too bad for Watson he is stuck with Bill O’Brien. The same Bill O’Brien who got shut out against the Patriots playing a 3rd string rookie QB last year.

  14. Kinda funny to see dwindling hater nation still flailing away. They’re really hurting my feelings. I’m so close to being convinced they’re right

  15. Any QB would shine in the Patriots system from Kaepernick to Rg3. Essentially Brady is a tick above mediocre but looks great in the system.
    GOAT system
    GOAT system QB
    GOAT system coach.

  16. I don’t understand the thesis of the article. Why would Tom Brady be giving out pointers? He isn’t in the coaching business. He is in the playing business. I don’t know why the media expects that. Do they give the idea for a great story to another newspapers or news outlets rookie or cub reporter? It is a lot like the running up the score argument in professional sports. The whole idea is silly.

  17. Puzzling story. Other than a Peyton/Eli situation, why should any QB pass on their hard-earned knowledge and experience to a QB from another team? One thing’s for certain; Raiders fans should thank their lucky stars that David Carr didn’t pass on his knowledge and experience to his younger brother.

  18. I maintain he would be much like Matt Cassel… Matt went like 11-5 in Pats system and never anywhere else…. EXTREMELY doubt Brady would do much better than Cassel on another team!

Tom Brady is an overrated cheating putz. He is too dumb to give insight to other players other than what Bellichick hands him on a note card.

That comment says more about you than it does them and is similar in delusional insanity to those that call President TRUMP “dumb” or “lucky” despite being super-successful in many fields over four decades before beating 16 professional politicians and the Media and Establishment candidate who outspent him over 2 to 1 to win the Presidency.

  21. “#anotherreasonwhyheainttheGOAT”

Lolz at ridiculous Pats hater logic.

If he doesn’t help the QB of another playoff team the Pats have on their regular season schedule and could well face in the playoffs again, it means Brady isn’t “great”

If he had helped him you’d be screaming to high heavens that he’s a total idiot for helping the competition get better.

Worst Playoff Call Everrrr, The Tuck Rule…

    —————————————————————————-

    WRONG !!!

The worst Playoff call in the history of the NFL occurred in 1976 and gifted The Raiders a Superbowl “win”. There are 2 videos available online where this becomes obvious. Just search the popular online video site for: “1976 Patriots” and “‘Roughing the Passer’: The Patriots-Raiders Playoff Game They Don’t Want You To Know About! ”

    Besides…
The tuck rule play was immediate Karma for the Raiders cheating in that same game.

If you look for a video online titled “THE TUCK RULE – 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY” you can see #21 Eric Allen Raiders cornerback standing on the Patriots sideline as the Patriots are talking about the play the Patriots are going to run.

In the video Eric Allen is interviewed and he says that he told the Raiders coaches that information. The Raiders then put a defense in to specifically cover the player that Tom Brady was going to pass to. That is why Tom Brady had to tuck the football in the first place.

So if the Raiders did not steal the Patriots play call with that sleazy tactic, then the tuck rule play never happens and the GOAT completes a pass to win the game. Tom Brady obviously had the skill to complete a pass when the other team doesn’t know the play.

The Tuck Rule was already a rule in the NFL rule book so the fact that the referees called it according to the rule book was what it was their jobs to do.

  23. The NE Cheaters fans are the most insecure in all of sports.

THUMBS UP if you think NE fans are cry babies.

THUMBS DOWN if you think NE fans whiners.
