Calais Campbell earns defensive player of week for leading Jaguars sack parade

The Jaguars shocked everyone Sunday, not necessarily by beating the Texans, but by racking up 10 sacks.

The guy who did the bulk of the damage earned his praise Wednesday.

Veteran defensive lineman Calias Campbell was named AFC defensive player of the week for his impressive debut with the Jaguars.

Campbell had four sacks to lead the Jaguars, beginning to earn that big contract they gave him this offseason.

Campbell signed a four-year, $60 million deal to leave the Cardinals in free agency. They were hoping he’d provide leadership and some ballast to a defense with a number of good young parts. But the kind of production he showed Sunday had to be a pleasant surprise.

  1. As a Cards fan, it’s kinda dispiriting to watch Calais get four sacks while Tony Jefferson is killing it in Baltimore.

I guess this is a variation of Arian’s addage…we risked it and delivered biscuits to both the Jags and the Ravens.

  2. Well deserved but it was against the Texans horrible line. Let’s see how do they do against a very good Titans line this week. Racking up half those stats even would be impressive.

  3. Jaguars 27

    Titans 17

Jags D will continue to Hunt, they will come after Mariota and that Titan offense all day long come Sunday. Calais will have 2 sacks in this game for sure. I predict Jags D getting 5 or 6 sacks as a whole in this one. After beating the Titans, we will be in the driver’s seat in the Afc South with a 2-0 Division Record. Go Jags !!!

  4. Tennessee’s line and a mobile Mariota will be a really good measuring stick as to what the Jags front seven is really capable of. I’m eagerly awaiting Sunday’s game.. but at the same time, kinda worried. Tennessee will be amped up after losing their home opener, and hopefully the Jags didn’t get big heads reading the press clippings. Go Jags!
