Report: Packers hoping for Aaron Rodgers’ return Dec. 17

The Packers are hoping quarterback Aaron Rodgers can return for their Dec. 17 game against Carolina, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Demovsky says it “might be a long shot, but they’re hoping.”

Rodgers had surgery Thursday to repair his right collarbone. The team placed him on injured reserve Friday, making him ineligible to play for eight weeks.

The Week 15 game against the Panthers would mark the earliest Rodgers could return.

Of course, the Packers will have to remain in the playoff hunt with Brett Hundley for a Rodgers’ return even to become a possibility.

  1. The Cowboys rushed Romo back from a broken collar bone and it ended his career.
    Don’t do that to Rodgers.
    Let him fully heal.
If you reduce Rodgers future effectiveness, the Packers will be an 8-8 team for the next several years.

  2. GB is done for this year. Really a shame that a franchise that’s had Favre and Rodgers at QB for last 26 years has but 2 Super Bowl championships. What a waste.

  3. As it’s his throwing shoulder, it’ll be 10-12 weeks. No way is he back in 8 weeks, unless the Packers training staff and Rodgers really don’t care about the rest of his career.

  4. He’ll be ready to go by week 14 but Hundley can beat Cleveland, allowing AR another week. The surgery already stabilized the break, now he can move and the bone can still continue healing. Romo opted NOT to have surgery so the partially healed bone wasn’t ready to be smashed.

  5. 1) He can’t play until week 15 at the earliest, so it doesn’t matter if he’s ready by week 14, week 12, or week 8. Limited IR means the player must be off the roster for a minimum of 8 weeks, meaning week 14 would be the 8th week and he would still be ineligible to play.

    2) Week 15 is against the Panthers, as the article stated, not the Vikings. The Vikings game is week 16.

A hope and a prayer. Same story since 2012.

    ===============

Yes, because 5 years is ancient history. Tool.

  7. You know, I hope he doesn’t play this year. Come on Aaron…come on Pack…let the kid heal and take another kick at the cat next year.

This guy is special on the field and off. He’s more than just an arm. If Hundley plays well enough or not … The Oline is beat to hell and there is one healty D-back…play out the season with all the pride you have, but, don’t rush Aaron back. It’s just not worth the risk.

  8. If Hundley plays lights out like Dak did last year, would they really still bring Rodgers back ? The Packers would be on roll and as great as Rodgers is, does McCarthy mess with the team chemistry ? Could lead to qb controversy.

  9. I take the long view — better to put Aaron on the shelf until 2018 season; see what Brett can do. Cheering for the Packers since the Scooter McLean days gives perspective and maybe some wisdom.

  10. I hope it happens. I’d love to see him back in time to face the Vikings at Lambeau. Sure, it lessons my team’s chances for a win on the road, but any fan who isn’t rooting for a player to be healthy is a lousy fan. What a fun showdown game that would be. Best of luck to him.

  11. Even if Brett Hundley plays lights out, he’s not going to be better than arguably the best QB of all time.

  12. Either way, it won’t make any difference. If Hundley is really playing well and GB is in the position to make the playoffs, bringing AR back into the lineup, will just mess up the team’s chemistry. If the Packers are not in the position to make the playoffs, why risk it? Either way way, GB would be taking a big risk bringing him back this season. Add to that it would be around 14 that he will be “able” to return. The regular seaon is basically over at that time.

    week 14 Panthers – away
    week 15 Vikings – home
    week 16 Lions -away

    Won’t make it easier.

  13. Even if Brett Hundley plays lights out, he’s not going to be better than arguably the best QB of all time.

    ———————————–

He also won’t be better than Aaron Rodgers

  14. I have no doubt that he will come back and kill the Vikings with like 5 touchdowns and 450 yards in Week 15.

  15. Hell be lucky to be ready for Spring Practice. This is another MM bullsht injury report. He thinks he is so smart lying about injuries. If he had the pin and plate procedure I read about, just to be able to lift your arm to normal height takes 7 weeks. Total strenght and condition of the arm and shoulder is a minimum of 12 weeks. Thats for anyone. Throw in someone who needs to toss a football 100 miles and hour, Spring of 2018.

  16. My issue with Hundley like many QB’s isnt the arm its the mind. Rogers has a football arm and a keen mind to go along with it. Dont know about Hundley at all. Travaris J had all the tools, he could run, pass and looked like a real baller. His one big problemo, he could not read a defense to save his life. Mr Interception. Lets hope Hundley isnt Travaris 2.

  17. let the team record determine the outcome. If the Pack is out of the running, give Rogers as much time as possible to heal completely. If they are still in the hunt, then there is a decision to make.

  18. I prefer to beat GB with AR standing. I hope he has a full recovery and plays for many years. I don’t like him or the Packers, but the guy is a great baller, can’t take that from him.

Hope you’re feeling better AR, Packer fans try to dry the tears, it’s really unbecoming.

  19. Aaron has been on the decline. He will not get better. He will never be as good as he was. Our Packers need to look for a new QB.

2 Super Bowl Championships in 26 years is actually pretty darn good. The Packers have played pretty great football for most of those years. Championships are great, but people who understand reality realize how difficult they are to attain.

Hundley might have played really well, the Vikings defense is just that good!
    ///////////////////////////////

Sure, the Vikings defense is good. In fact, it’s vaunted. But Hundley played like crap. So did Aaron the first time he substituted for Favre, way back when. I think the Packers will win on Sunday and will remain competitive the rest of the season.

  22. Rodgers being out is the only thing that makes this division competitive. Whenever he returns, the Packers will go back to owning it. So enjoy this while you can, Rodgers is going to play for a long, long time to come. So savor this, it’s as good it gets for you.

  23. Remember last year when AP said he would only come back at the end of the season from his torn meniscus if the Viking were still in the playoff picture and all Packers fans were saying that showed he was not a team player?

The most full of themselves fans.

As opposed to the viking fans who are just plain full of it? I don’t recall hearing Aaron Rodgers or the coaching staff say he was only coming back this year if the Packers are in the playoff picture. Peterson did, but don’t let facts get in the way of your story.

  25. If Hundley plays well it will be fun hearing how the Packers “lucked into” another one.

    >>>

I dont think you’ll have to worry about that.
