Kam Chancellor not coming back this season

The Seahawks are 7-4 and still in the playoff chase, but they’re rapidly running out of playmakers.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll just said during his appearance on 710 ESPN that safety Kam Chancellor was not returning this season because of a neck problem.

He’s not going to make it back this year,” Carroll said. “Beyond that, it’s up to him.”

That suggests there are long-term concerns about the neck injury he suffered earlier this month against the Cardinals.

Carroll also said that defensive end Cliff Avril was having disc surgery on his neck this week. Between Avril, Chancellor, and cornerback Richard Sherman (Achilles), the Seahawks have plenty of star power on IR, and we’ll see if they have enough left to remain a playoff contender.

  1. How many years can there be between SB wins to remain a dynasty? I’m thinking that Sea might be on the edge of that window.

lol do you know what defines a dynasty? its not two super bowl wins, its three so the seahawks arent even close

Usually you need, you know, more than one Super Bowl win to be a “dynasty”

Remain a dynasty??? 1 Superbowl win hardly defines a team as a dynasty

  4. If Avril and Chancellor retire and Charmin is waived, then their salary cap problem will ease. If they allow Jimmy Graham to sign with another team, then they have even more cap space. Neck injuries are serious, because paralysis is a real danger.

Not a ‘hawk fan, but that D was something special. Shut down the run and pass equally. They are now officially Wilson’s team, for better or worse.

    36 4

I suspect a lot of D’s look special against the 49ers this year

  6. Hawk fan here and I must say it’s a good thing we have Bradley mcdugald and all these young guys we drafted this year like Thorpe was playing pretty nice cornerback yesterday.

This is the NFL and old guys get old and get hurt it’s a brutal sport and it’s time for next man up. Like somebody else said all that money being paid to Sherman and Kam Chancellor is a lot of money.

The thing is even though the Rams are ahead by one game the Seahawks beat La in La so the next game is in Seattle. If Seattle wins that game then they win the division. Assuming they can win out… both teams have to play the Eagles of course.

Russell Wilson is a magician so you just never know.

Bottom line is if LA is The Division champion they will have earned it. They’re even likeable unlike Cardinals and Niners teams of the past.

And the Rams, and the Colts, and the Giants, and the Cardinals, and the…

  8. I saw plenty of the “dynasty” talk by Seattle fans on this site during the 2014 season before the Patriots SB 49 win..

In fact, Russell “nanobubbles” Wilson was the lead perpetrator, talking about how he wanted 6 SB championships……ROTFLMAO

I like how the trolls are trolling the trolls regarding the “dynasty” nonsense that no Hawks fan ever proclaimed to have or be.

  9. what a drag . . . there’s next man up and all that, but there aren’t a lot of Kam Chancellor’s running around. Have loved watching that guy play. I’ll understand if it is, but hoping it’s not the end of the road for his career.

  10. McDougald is making Kam’s absence bearable. Kam’s great, but he’s getting old and his physical play is starting to show its wear. He’s missed multiple games in each of his past few years due to injury. And objectively, he’s been mostly invisible this year when healthy. McDougald has been great and might be playing Kam out of a job next year. And similarly, the defense has played just as well without Sherman than with this year. Maxwell’s been solid so far and Lane has even played decent. With Griffin and Shead coming back from injury, Sherman might be expendable too.

The commentary on the Seahawks is altogether different if not for 1 play.

.. the defense is still a force to be reckoned with.

4 of their core players are 24 year old or younger (Shaq, Clark, Reed, Naz Jones)
4 of their KEY players are 26-28 years old (Wagner, Wright, Earl, Richardson)
Bennett is the senior member on D at 32

Earl Thomas and Bobby Wagner are the best players at their positions. Both are HOF candidates. Wagner has been the best player on the team this year and should be a considered for DPOY.

Kam would be a big loss. All signs are pointing to this ending his career. Odds are Sherman is gone too. But I don’t see this D falling to the middle of the pack anytime soon. The scheme is sustainable, and they’ve drafted exceptionally well.

  12. Better to have had the best Defense in football for nearly 5 straight wins than not at all.

Thank you Kam Chancellor. You did your best. Don’t look back.
