Which current opening is the best opening?

There are plenty of openings in the NFL right now, including coaching jobs, coordinator positions, and General Manager slots. So which ones are the best?

Coincidentally (or not), it’s a topic that recently was raised on PFT Live, with Chris Simms and yours truly going back and forth in a three-round draft.

Watch it now, because who knows when the vacancies are going to start to be filled? And, yes, that’s the best I can do to persuade you to hear what we have to say on the topic.

Did it work?

  1. Bears would be the best coaching gig. They already have a lot of young talent, including a good QB. That is where I would want to be.

  2. The Packers GM job is CLEARLY the best job available. What new GM gets to step into the the middle of a HOF QBs career? And there are some really nice pieces on GBs team: LT, RB, WR1, DT, DT, ILB, C. Very good players.

  3. It would be hard to do better than Detroit. The Lions have a healthy proven franchise QB in place, a 9-7 roster that doesn’t need too much compared to most of the others with a GM capable of addressing it, a stable patient owner and a realistic press and fan base.

A better reason might that the Packers are the only professional sports team without a meddlesome owner.

So how does a new GM get credit for a QB that’s already there?
If the GM builds a good defense, it might work. Rodgers is good, but how many years does he have left?

Don’t you mean the tail end of a HOF QB’s career – as said QB recovers from an injury where after he was medically cleared to return to action – could no longer throw an accurate deep ball?

  7. Green Bay has the best opening available, obviously. They don’t have an owner to answer to, plus they have the GOAT at QB.
