Jerry Jones screaming into his pillow about the Eagles

The NFC East became the first division in the NFL with four teams that have won the Super Bowl when the Eagles beat the Patriots last Sunday, but divisional pride probably didn’t make Cowboys owner Jerry Jones feel any better.

Jones was in Minneapolis for NFL Honors on Saturday night and was asked about the Eagles playing in the Super Bowl the next day.

“The muffled voice you have been hearing his me screaming in my pillow over not being here and seeing Philadelphia,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

It’s not the first time that Jones has used pillow screaming to describe his feeling about not being in the Super Bowl. Given the divisional animosity with the Eagles, things might be going even further this time. The Cowboys were the darlings of the division with a pair of rookies leading the way in 2016, but the Eagles ensured that they enjoyed a brief run in that position.

Jones described himself as “uncomfortable” about the state of affairs and that he “naturally” looks to change in the face of falling short, although that didn’t mean major changes to the coaching staff this offseason.

“The intent was to do as much as we could from within,” Jones said. “We wanted to have a lot of change, but keep the consistency with the coordinators. We are finishing up like we designed it from my perspective.”

The Cowboys have a new special teams coach and five new position coaches. They filled half those positions with outside hires and are still looking for a tight ends coach after, per Hill, former Titans quarterbacks coach Jason Michael turned down the job.

Whoever gets the job is unlikely to upset the balance of power too much, but Jones’ pillows won’t be getting a rest until Dallas does find a way to pull that off.

  1. As a Cowboys fan, I’d like to speak for Cowboys supporters all over the world. Jerry, hold the pillow tighter to your face and for a longer period of time.

  2. If he liked being in Super Bowls so much, he shouldn’t have fired the guy who carried him there over 20 years ago.

Ego, ego, ego. He only wants his team to win if HE can be the one getting the hype and glory for it. Otherwise, he’d rather just get rich and undermine the more qualified football minds he hires to “run” his team so he can feel like an important big shot.

Jerrys bronzed bust cracking that stupid smirk inside the Hall of Fame is the biggest joke in Canton.

  3. Hahaha it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to know that Dr. Jones is haunted by the fact that the Eagles just won the super bowl, not his trio of golden boys Dak, Zeke, and Dez. I’m sure we don’t need to remind him that it was in fact, the backup B.D.N behind center. What a great feeling! What a great time for The City of Brotherly Love. What a wonderful time for the Iggles organization and their entire fan base! No Boo Birds here! What a difference a coaching staff makes when you have leaders whom not only are aggressive and plan well, but also one who has the entire team behind them! That locker room believes in and loves Doug, Jimmy, Frankie, and the others. They respect the coaches and play their hearts out for them. This is definitely a team without any “I’s” in it. They have proven through all of the adversity that they love each other and this is about that group all together as one. Not any single player. The fact that the RB room is as tight as they are along with Duece, and you don’t see one guy being “the guy”. Same goes for the WR room. This isn’t a Diva Dez group. This is all about the team. The D has a deep rotation and all of these guys are equal to each other in that group. This 2017-18 Eagles Team is really one of the best, if not THE best built group in the league. No drama in the locker room. No social media. It is about them as brothers. Starts at the top with Howie putting it together and continues down with the coaches and assistants. And it’s all held together by these players who understand what this team is about. Most deserved championship team in the history of the game, and they are only getting started. Great things to come in the future.

  4. Jerrah took the draft from Philly, so Philly took the NFC East, the Super Bowl and the title of America’s Team for dethroning the evil empire!

  5. I don’t understand it sometimes. How does someone own a great team and let it run down and wither away to an also ran status.

Shame on Jerry Jones. What was once proud, is now a joke.

  6. As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I am happy for Eagles fans. It’s been a rough road these last 20 years following the Cowboys, but at least I had those fond memories of Staubach & Aikman Super Bowl wins as comfort. Now Eagles fans have that too. Cheers to you all! And double cheers to Nick Foles for doing such a stellar job under the bright lights.

I think the Cowboys need a strong, bold head coach, period. They need a vision and a leader driven to implement it. Guys like Pederson, Belichick, and Jimmy Johnson make things happen, they make the difference that the Cowboys have been stuck on for so long. Nothing against Garrett, but he seems to be a manager. Jerry needs to let someone in the room who he’s willing to give the reins to.

The team has had all the talent it’s needed for ages. Romo was always good enough. They’ve had great talent across all phases of the game. They just don’t have someone to forge it into what breaks the mold, so at their best they just land in that Reid/Tomlin almost-but-not-quite purgatory.

As long as JJ is running the show, his team will never be in the Super Bowl conversation.
    ………
Well somehow here we are talking about Jerry and the Super Bowl. funny huh?

  8. Jerry just needs to find someone to give him 17 draft picks in the first 3 rounds, in exchange for Alfred Morris. You know, just like Jimmy had to build his team.

  9. As an Eagles fan, I like Jerra as GM. It pretty much counts the boys out of any SB appearances. I will say that he has passion. If the 2005 “incident” had happened to his “Boys” the building in which the NFL HQ sits in NYC would no longer exist.

  10. Sorry Jerrah. I’m sure all the plastic in your face is cracking over this Philly win, but you need to deal with reality. Witten is out of gas, Dez is a decent #3 at this pointn and Dak may not be what you hoped he was.

People like to keep to the narrative that Dallas only missed put on a deep run because of the Elliott suspension but they weren’t playing at an elite level before or after his suspension.

    Jerrah a sad boy…..

This goes to a whole new level of “famous last words”.

  12. So many stories about the other teams and few about the Eagles. I hope we’re underdogs again next season too…it seems to work.

  13. It will really stink for Cowboys fans at the draft to have to hear the following:

“With the 32nd pick in the 1st round, the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles”!!!!!

  14. Pats and Eagles have a couple of things in common structurally. Both have informed but hands off owners, strong and innovative head coaches that the players play hard for and respect and QB’s that can run the offense as it designed. Dallas has none of that. It all starts (and ends) with Mr. Jones.

  15. Serves them right for getting rid of so many secondary players in the off season, so many fans of the team told us all about how it won’t matter and look what happened

All you need is a QB, and a HC, and you can make it to the playoffs again.
    ———————————————
Unfortunately for Cowboys fans, you have neither! 1996 and Counting!!!

  17. Not even thinking about next year. As an Eagles I am just going to revel in this for a few months. Next year is far away. Every year teams fortunes increase and decrease dramatically. Expect for the Steelers and Pats. Both head coaches there taking a lot of criticism.

  18. Jones does not want to hire a head coach who will receive credit for a Super Bowl win. that is why his team has not returned to the Super Bowl since 1996. The more mediocre a head coach is, the more Jerry will like him, because if the Cowpies were to win another SB, they will say that it is because of Jerry Jones.

  19. those frauds don’t belong in the NFC East, they’re not east coast and it’s way past due to put those frauds back where they belong. Put them in the AFC South! Move the Colts to the AFC North and move Pittsburgh to the NFC East. Then we can establish a true east coast, Pennsylvania rivalry and Eagles fans wouldn’t have to catch a plane to a road game but could drive down the turnpike. No one wants those frauds in the NFC East except for them – they get the perks of playing Philly, New York and DC, we get nothing. Send those frauds back down south where they are from and ashamed to be from.

Stop – that was reasonable talk from a Cowboy fan… how can that be? You have way to much intelligence to be Cowboys fan.

  22. From Dandy Don, to Craig Morton, to Roger Staubach, to Troy, to Dak, the Cowboys have given this Eagles fans his fair share of misery.

For me, reading an article in which Jerry Jones admits how distraught he is at the Birds winning the Super Bowl is almost as good as winning the damn thing.

  23. Wasn’t is Jerruh that asked/prayed to the big guy in 1996 that if the Cowboys beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl, he swore he would never ask for another Super Bowl win? As long as he is GM, they will never win another Super Bowl.

I can see why you’d want the Cowboys out – they have a lifetime winning record against all other NFC East teams and the most Super Bowl wins (5) in the division.

Regarding those “perks” – since the Cowboys are the most valuable NFL team and still command the highest ratings despite a 20+ year SB drought, I’d say the other three teams get a wee benefit as well.

Rivalries and tradition are about more than whether you have to drive or fly to see the games. These NFC East teams have the best and richest rivalries in the game.

Ha! Thank you. I suspect places like this bring out the worst fans of every team, or just the worst out of people in general.

If I wasn’t born into being a Cowboys fan, it’s likely I wouldn’t have chosen it. But for all the reasons there have been to change horses, there’s something to be said for sticking with one protagonist for the whole longtime NFL story.

Hopefully both the Cowboys and Panthers will be back in the thick of it next season.

  26. Well, Mister Jones, you are the one who insisted on maintaining “The Love Affair” with Tony Romo, such that your team just foddered along until Dak Prescott joined the group. Stop Your Whining! lol

  27. The Cowboys will never be in the Super Bowl until Jerruh gets out of the way, takes Garrett with him, and lets a real GM and coach take over running the team. Until then, it’s only an ego trip for JJ.

  28. I want the Cowboys in the Eagles division. I like the opportunity to watch them fail. Hey, they were great back when VCR’s were the rage! Seriously, I do respect their history. I love the rivalry and my favorite announcers just happen to be ex-Cowboys.

  29. Kevpft

You are right and I am not worried about them as long as Jerra is GM. The key for them is can Elliot stay out of trouble? Can Dad recover from a bad 2nd half? Can the D be worth anything without Lee on the field? Can the head coach do anything else besides clapping his hands on the sidelines?

  30. I actually had a Cowboys fan say to me today, “well, we were the last team to beat you”.
That typifies this clueless, front running fan base and this out of touch, morally bankrupt owner.
The Birds are set to reign for a long time. Jerrahs tears sure do taste sweet.
    E.A.G.L.E.S.

  31. Some Cowboys trivia – while looking up historical team information, I found that they have a lifetime winning record against all other NFL teams but *four*.

Some of the four surprised me: Ravens, Browns, Broncos, Packers.

I wonder if that’s best in the league. A quick check of several other top teams (Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Giants, Colts, Broncos, Redskins) showed they weren’t even close in this regard.

  32. The scary thing for the rest of us – NFL fans who are not Eagles fans – is its hard to see how they’re not just as good or even likely better next year. That is one solid football team top to bottom.

  33. Instead of worrying about the Eagles maybe Jerry should focus on his sadsack collection of drug addicted convicted felon abusers. Maybe get a real coach instead of the carrot topped yes man currently running the Blowboy gongshow.

Lets see 2018 – 1993 is 26 years ………..thats a long time to wave that faded flag.

    Ends that little debate.

  39. Jerry, you should be happy. You’ve been vindicated by the Eagles’ win. For years everybody’s been telling you that you need to hire a football guy to run your team. Well, Howie Roseman is proof that you don’t really need to hire a so-called football guy. Howie just kicked all their butts. But I will say something about Roseman. I never heard one peep out of him all year long. Maybe that’s the secret Jerry. Maybe you should give that a try. Just work baby!

  40. Man, talk about trash talk coming back to smack you in the mouth. Drew Pearson should’ve kept his big mouth shut. Can’t wait to tune in to the draft April 26th!

  41. As an Eagles fan, I’m glad that Jones fired Jimmy Johnson, and to make it worse, Parcells quit because Jerrah wouldn’t let him do his job. Keep it up, Jerrah!

  42. Here is the difference between the Eagles and Cowboys. Both lost key starters throughout the season. However, one coaching staff thinks outside the box and is creative in using the talents of their players. The other staff has no ability to be creative and devise a game plan to exploit the strengths of their players. One set of coaches lacks any modern day ability to scheme outside their system and create opportunities for their team, but they are great at being “yes men” to the owner. The other staff is brilliant and knows how scheme for their opponents.

And I’m a Cowboys fan saying all this…congrats to the Eagles. I really hope Jerry understands what just happened to his team this past year and with the Eagles. Better coaches, out coached and it’s not even close. But let’s waste another year with Scott’s boring, lame, predictable offense. Same coaching staff, same results next year Cowboys. Enjoy!

  43. I still dont know why this team is still called “America’s team”? is it because they are a bunch of losers? besides their few good years during the 70s and like 4 good seasons in the 90s they have been an aveg team. Shoot, how many playoffs have they won since 95? 1?I could be wrong, it might be 0.

  44. I have the answer Jerry! (1) Make Will McClay General Manager, (2) Tell Garrett to start taking risks and school up on game management (or get a better coach) and (3) Take a Serious look at Free Agency to improve the pass rush if needed and bring someone in.

He is right we should be there, but his insistence on being GM makes needed corrections difficult. He should realize that. I know #1 is not likely at all. Maybe the other 2 would help.

Grats Eagles well deserved and hard as it was I was pulling for you! GO COWBOYS!!!

yeah the last one you got was during the Saved by the Bell era

  48. Codylaws says:

Eagles won’t make it out of the first round. Julio Jones and Matt Ryan are going to kill them —- ummmm nope.

    Also says:

The Vikings are going to show the Eagles what a real defense is, Vikings in a laugher — I believe the Eagles disgraced the Vikings in one of the biggest a** shopping’s a team can put on another team in a championship. Again wrong.

    Codylaws SB prediction :

Eagles will be embarrassed by the Pats.

I think there is a parade headed down Briad St in Philly. Bill Belichick just got pantsed by a back up QB. At least he had the decency to shake the coach’s hand and not run off like a cry baby.

Codylaws prediction for next year: eagles will never win another SB —— get the rings ready biys!!!

  49. Someone tell Jerry that they continued playing football in the new millennium.

    1996 and counting….

    Redskins 1992 and counting…

Just like titles before 1967 for some reason dont count, the new rule is championships before the new millennium dont count now either.

    So speakith the Champions.

    Philly! Philly!

  50. Nick Foles has more playoff wins than the Cowboys or the redskins in the last 20 years. Keep screaming Jerha
