Two stabbed at Eagles victory parade

If you believed every urban myth concerning the reputation of Eagles fans, you might be surprised the city is still standing today.

And while things were largely peaceful, there were a few isolated incidents during yesterday’s victory parade.

According to the Associated Press, two people were stabbed, a police officer was assaulted (but no horses) and four police vehicles sustained minor damage.

Considering an estimated 700,000 crowded the streets between the Eagles facility and the art museum steps, that’s probably as well as could be expected (unless you’re the two people who got stabbed, who both survived).

Philadelphia Police Department commissioner Richard Ross on Friday said there were some “small hiccups,” including two arrests for assaults. A large video screen was toppled when fans climbed on it.

But the city isn’t currently on fire, and hasn’t turned into a scene from Mad Max or anything. So that’s two wins for Philadelphia this week.

  1. Classy Eagles fans stabbing each other but complain about the arrogance of Pats fans! Eagles fans can’t handle being SB champs. For the love of everything please stop hurting your fellow people.

  2. Cue the hater comments: “stay classy Philly” and “Philly is trash” and “people from Philly are human garbage.”

But we all know the truth: these kinds of things happen at every championship parade.

  3. First – There were well more than 700K people there. Triple that, at least.

Second – Look at any big city in America and there are way more than 2 stabbings per day. Sadly, this is far from newsworthy.

Third – The “Philly is terrible” rhetoric is sooooooooo incedibly tired. Find a new storyline, there’s nothing going here that doesn’t go on in every major market in the world. Nothing.

  4. In philly this happened after a superbowl victory parade as other teams deal with that after a win or loss during the regular season… hardcore internet trolls always trying to make it seems like it doesnt happen where they live.

Ah no stabbings at 5 Pats parades.

  6. diarrheahughes827769358 <- Let me guess, Philly resident?!

    Keep defending your city/fan base….

Being that only 3 things happen out of 700K (or more) people is pretty good. At the same time, most (if not all) should have been there to celebrate the city's first Super Bowl ever! Why in the hell would you want to trash your city, attempt murder on people or assault anyone and call that a celebration?! Let's not forget the looting that was done after the win Sunday night.

I have been to Philly and it was a good experience. However, I was not wearing any sports attire nor was I attending a game as a visiting fan. I would never do that as those Philly fans go into full psychotic mode. That's a huge embarrassment on the city and the teams that allow this to happen.

  7. so its a win to have only two people stabbed? i guess it is philadelphia . . . however, a celebration is supposed to be a time for joy and happiness . . . not violence of any sort . . . that is not a win, sorry to burst your bubble!!

  8. It was a fantastic experience that my daughter and I will remember forever.

Um, being stabbed? Way to be positive!

  9. Took my family of 5 there from Baltimore. It was an incredible experience and one I wanted my kids to have for a lifetime. Fellow fans couldn’t have been nicer or friendlier. Multiple people offered drinks and even snacks.

I’ve been to tons of games and events in Philly and never had an issue and even have left feeling proud.. like I was part of the city.

Every city and fan base has knuckleheads. I’ve seen them at Ravens games I’ve attended with friends who are Ravens fans. People that have no clue about the city of Philadelphia or had any experience with the fan base shouldn’t comment until they have had an opportunity to go there. However, if those people have had negative experiences, don’t lump every Philly fan in with the small percentage of fanatical idiots are are present in every city.

No need. The city speaks for itself……….,

  11. New England, on the other hand, had some real violence. The biggest flash point was on the UMass-Amherst campus, where a riot ensued following the Super Bowl. Six people were arrested, and 12 injured after fights broke out and projectiles were thrown. Ultimately riot police needed to be dispatched to disperse the crowd.

  12. Loved playing and now love watching football. As a grown man I can’t imagine I’d ever go to a parade for the professional football team I follow.

  13. Eh, most Eagles fans have been classy about it and treating it like a family celebration rather than something to rub in other people’s faces. Quite a contrast to Giants fans who remain obnoxious about their SB wins over the Patriots probably because they know deep down inside what unworthy flukes they really were.

  14. You might wonder if the authorities put something in the Philadelphia water system before the parade to keep it so relatively calm?! 🙂

  15. Truly a shame because there is so much history to enjoy in the city of Philadelphia. From Constitution Hall to the Betsy Ross house and everything in between. I’ve been to several sporting events both with and without opposing team garb and the fans truly are skells. The sad part is I rub elbows with these same people at work and they are great people when not attending games.

  16. “don’t lump every Philly fan in with the small percentage of fanatical idiots are are present in every city.”

Your “small percentage” is higher than every other team’s “percentage” of “knuckleheads”. No not all of you are garbage, but there’s more of you and they’re all worse than the other teams’ “knuckleheads”.

  17. this is almost nothing. stabbings could be anyone attracted to a crowd. maybe a mugging. y’all are just so eager to hate on philly that u make a mountain out of a molehill.
Guess what, nobody likes us and we don’t care. But we are champs. nothing you can say changes it. All the hate? possibly projection of one’s personal insecurities.

    repeat after me. Congrats Champ.

Can’t do it? How petty. How sad… maybe next year buddy.

  20. That’s sadder. Sentence structure means everything to me. Why would I congratulate you? The eagles won. you are not on the team, if you have not noticed. You are just plain old, going back to my regular life qweezyq.

It’s easier for you, you only have one. Now let me think…

I remember the Patriots 1st Superbowl win. I remember the Patriots 2nd Superbowl win. I remember the Patriots 3rd Superbowl win. I remember the Patriots 4th Superbowl win. I remember the Patriots 5th Superbowl win. I remember all 10 AFC championships. I remember all 27 playoff wins in the past 16 years.

    Whew! That was tiring!!

  22. The fear the rest of the fans in the league have for Philadelphia, it’s fans, attending games, or generally any kind of interaction at all is awesome. It makes every game a home game. Our house or yours.

Keep shaking girls. We’ll be sure to live up to your expectations and love every minute of it.

  23. As someone who lives on S Broad St (the parade route) I was lucky enough to experience the parade from my stoop. I invited family and friends over and was happy to let at least 20 strangers use my bathroom as the vibe in the neighborhood was very positive. From what I’ve been hearing the only “hiccups” happened once the festivities were winding down and only the people who were out to cause problems and / or didn’t know their limits regarding alchohol consumption were the ones to blame. As a lifelong Eagles fan I can admit that some of our fans have a long way to go in regards to acceptable public behavior but I will say that Thursday’s parade gave me hope that things are definitely moving in the right direction. Go Birds.

  24. The Eagles win their first Super Bowl ever, there was a wonderful parade in the city and this is the garbage you write?? Only 2 were stabbed…can’t you feel good for the Eagles and their fans? How small are you…

flviking. Okay, the pack choked in 2014. Can you tell me why the Vikings choke every stinking time they make they playoffs? That’s good stuff right there

I am going to open a belt store in philly. By the look of the picture it should do very well. The gangsta pants around the ankle look has been gone for awhile now philly😂

  26. LOL. all of the haters. some of us have been waiting Fifty plus years for this World Championship. We Beat Brady/BB with our backup.
