Report: Vikings already have inquired about Marquette King

The Raiders released punter Marquette King on Friday afternoon. He might not need long to find a new home.

The Vikings already have inquired about King, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports.

Vikings punter Ryan Quigley has a non-guaranteed $790,000 base salary for 2018.

King spent six seasons with the Raiders and averaged 46.8 yards per punt.

  1. Surprised that they didn’t even go through OTAs & minicamps to see if he could fit in w/ the new staff. Better have an excellent Plan B b/c King is a great punter.

  2. Okay, I can see this. I thought Quigley did a great job last year because he didn’t have a single touchback in the regular season. I had no idea he was 33rd in gross average and 28th in net average, though. King was 6th and 3rd, respectively. Looks like it would be a pretty major upgrade.

  3. His next contract will be near the top end of all punter contracts, long term and with significant guarantees.

  4. Just keep bringing in new punters, Vikes. Eventually we’ll forget who Chris Kluwe ever was!

  5. I was never that impressed by Quigley. He played it safe to many times. He also wasn’t terribly quick on getting punts off,the O line has partial fault but getting the ball off the for that few 10ths of a second late and too flat got him blocked at too many critical times… But when you think of how important kickers are for field position, it is a wonder they don’t hold out for better pay!

The Vikings may want to consider jersey names attached with Velcro.

Don’t quite understand. Is it because the Vikings are improving the team by signing better players? Maybe sitting on our hands is a better way of building a team like the packers. Oops, sorry, you did sign DeShone Kiser.

  8. Quigley is a little slow to get the ball off, a little weak legged but an exceptional directional punter. And his price is right. His poor net avg. is a good indicator to how many drives stalled beyond mid field. Forbath had a few longer field goals but it is Forbath so why not play the field position.

King is one of the best of the bunch. Howitzer of a leg, excellent hang time and he’s an athlete to boot. His price demands will likely reflect this. Tough call. Just not sure Quigley is the problem with our kicking game.

On a side note: Steller – The majority of your posts are nauseating. Your football acumen appears to be marginally informed. This is a polite way of saying on rare occasions I learn something by reading them. But that true, rock em’ sock em’ real deal football knowledge is wanting. Your an embarrassment to all those good solid GB faithful out there. And please do not try to associate me with the few Viking knuckleheads that engage in your petty banter. I’ve done nothing but acknowledge the successes of the Packers in the past. Because they’ve been good. At times very good. Real football folks recognize this and will report in like.
I expect you’ll try to defend yourself. Maybe you’ll call me names etc…. It will not be read by me. I’ve just had enough of your crap over the years and am simply putting it out there as a sign off to you.
Your not a good source for football information of any consequence.

  9. Looked up his stats, and on Wikipedia, it has that he currently plays with the Minnesota Vikings. Wonder if this means that they have signed him, or if Wikipedia is just messing up.

Well i’ve heard it all, i guess a team that’s never won a SB would be excited about a PUNTER and an overrated QB AND believe their defense (which by the way lost that NFC championship game) will be just a good next year (see Panthers)…not a pack or lion fan but they have two better QB’s…just saying

Bet you Capt Kurt has better stats than Cam. Because Vikes have better WRs.If Cam cant read a defense he runs……bhahaha

Agree, Rodgers and Stanford are better QBs, never said they weren’t. But Cousins brings an upgrade to the Vikings to go along with the NFLs number 1 defense. The packer defense is 22nd and the Lions defense is 27th……just saying.

Marquette King won’t be able accept fast enough, at below market value, just for the opportunity to join this Minnesota Vikings team.
    __________________________

Yeah, because it only took the Vikings to negotiate the richest contract in NFL history to secure the 3rd best QB in the NFC North.
And they were only bidding against the New York Jets.
Thanks for my 2nd biggest skoLOL of the day!

Chris Kluweless was terrible and an even worse punter.
    ————-
His average was like 2 yards shorter. I don’t have to be a Kluwe fan to come to your ignorance. Kluwe was not terrible unless you’re judging him by your social values…

  17. Another season on the horizon and another rcomment section full of Viking and packer fans sniping at each other. On an article about a punter no less. Some things never change. Waffle and stellar, perhaps if you’d quit egging the trolls on they’d leave our stories alone and we could actually talk about things like football, dontcha know.

I seriously don’t get the thinking of the cheesers. You guys should be happy he signed with the Vikings instead of going for bigger cash with the Jets. That dropped the price of Erin considerably. As for being the third best QB in the North would mean he brought the Redskins with him. To bad for you he didn’t.

  19. And cheese, you should stop with the hypocritical ba. You troll every packer story ever posted then complain about cheesers in the Viking stories. Maybe you should take your own advise.

Waffle, stellar, pkrlvr, all for one one for all. I agree, I for one will stay off the packer board if you three stay off the Viking board.

Let me get this straight, Packer fans are just egging on Viking trolls and only Viking fans are trolls. Earth to pkrlvr, we are no different than each other you just imagine yourself as better.

I troll most Packer stories. I do not complain about Packer trolls trolling. I complain about Packer trolls who believe and act luke there are only Viking trolls like yourself. No hypocrisy or arrogance there.

Sounds like king is a good punter, why is chuckie not keeping him?
    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
He’s been with em for a long time and the cap money he gobbles up is too high for a punter.

  25. When King starts to get you 15 yard penalties, because he is an idiot…tell me how bad a decision it was to get rid of him…plus his buddy Talib plays for the Rams…they can pull each other’s chains…

  26. King is a little quirky, but the man has a leg. He can change field position and with the Vikings number 1 defense they can change the game.

  27. I never understood why punters were not judged by how much field they had to work with, on a percentage basis. If they have 50 yards to work with a 45 yard punt is perfect.

  28. I just want the guy for the trick option/punt pass play.
Quigley will do just fine though.

I dont hate the packers, I just hate their fans… and their team.
It’s all in good fun though.
Hey, like johnny randle once said, we gotta hang out this offseason! we gotta go fishing!

    /////////////////////////

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  30. All due respect to our Packer friends, Keenum was the best QB in the NFCN last year. Cousins is a better thrower than Case, so that only leaves Aaron. Kirk isn’t there yet, but he could be. I’m surprised by Cousins’ mobility and he has a great fastball. Bad news for GB DET and CHI.

I recall a blocked punt in last year’s playoffs. Maybe Zim is trying to purge all memories?
