49ers’ Reuben Foster charged with three felonies in domestic violence case

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster has been charged with felony domestic violence, prosecutors announced today.

“Foster, 24, physically attacked the 28-year-old woman during a February argument at their Los Gatos home, leaving her bruised and with a ruptured ear drum,” the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Prosecutors charged Foster with one felony for that violent act, another felony for forcefully attempting to prevent the victim from reporting the crime, and a third felony for possessing an assault weapon. Foster is also charged with a misdemeanor for possessing a large capacity magazine. The charges could carry up to 11 years in prison.

The 49ers drafted Foster in the first round last year despite questions about character issues that had some teams reportedly taking him off their draft boards. Team owner Jed York was noncommittal last month about whether Foster has a future with the team. Foster will also be subject to league discipline, with the NFL conducting its own investigation that could find him in violation of the league’s personal conduct policy even if he is acquitted.

  1. Cut him.

Sucks for the 49ers to waste that pick, but the team is finally turned in the right direction. Don’t need this POS, cut him.

  2. “The charges could carry up to 11 years in prison.”

Can we stop with the maximum stuff? These millionaire babies get a slap on the wrist.

  3. Of course the 49ers haven’t cut him, hes a first round pick who showed talent ! If this was a backup 3rd string LB he would have been cut ages ago.

Big shame as he showed talent but the NFL have to show that whether you’re a 1st round pick or a cheap FA, if you hit a woman or worse then you’ll get cut.

Not a fan of the Pats but hats off to them for cutting Hernandez the second they heard about his initial charge

  4. When does this crap end? The league is going to crap. The people who play the game are so damn hard to root for. When are fans finally going to say enough I can’t root for these guys anymore. I am really at the point.

  5. On top of the very stupid decision to commit domestic violence, the fact that he had these kinds of guns stored in his California house in a state with some of the most strict gun laws is even more mind blowing. This guy is a pretty big idiot. Seemed like a ticking time bomb waiting to eventually happen. I assume he’s going to be removed from society for a long time

  6. It would seem to me that the last thing he should be concerned about at this juncture is league discipline. Myself, I would be a lot more concerned about 11 years in prison hanging over my head.
He will probably get 30 days each for the DV charges and five years of the illegal possession charge. (Calif justice)

  7. Welcome to the draft Mr Lynch….who they are is harder to figure out than how good they are…..

  8. Uh oh!!!!!!! Man, what is the deal with Alabama middle linebackers??? I know that John Lynch has gotta be like *dayum*! This cat couldn’t get out of his rookie year without showing up on the police blotter.

So he pay’s a heavy fine, get’s probation(first time offender), does the settlement with the injured party and get’s suspended by the league(amount of games to be determined). Hellova way to start off a professional career playing a game you love and now get paid for it.

I could not agree with you more. I grew up with a passion for watching football on Sundays. Then Monday nights. And so on and so on. But I am so sick of the NFL right now from player’s conduct on and off the field to all the rules that are destroying the game with countless amounts of flags being thrown.

If I was out at a pub and there was a game on then I’d be watching it but that’s about it last year. Didn’t put one game on at the house. I love college football on Saturdays and get my fill of football from that. I could care less about the NFL now as far as watching it.

  10. First offense I believe? He will plead way down get probation. Suspended by NFL back second half of year and in 2-3 years if nothing else happens everyone will move on.

  11. The league seriously needs to adopt a zero tolerance policy. Let the legal process work out, but if you are convicted of laying your hands on a woman, you never take another snap in the league. This is a huge problem.

  12. Saban will have to give him a job running the scout team with Rolando McClain and all the other Alabama NFL washouts.

  13. Does the NFL not have the “exempt/commissioner’s permission list” thing anymore? Why would this clown not already be on it?

  14. I remember how many Dolphins fans were crying and complaining when they took Harris over Foster…. Good times.

Dolphins fans make it hard to be a Dolphins fan.

  15. If I assault you with a back hoe, is it then an assault weapon? Anyway, the other two charges are valid.

  16. Haha, 11 years in prison?? You must be joking, NFL players never do time. Once a payout for the woman is worked out, all charges are dropped.

They have one. It was crafted by the Giants organization.

  18. So after a full year of hearing how the 49rs “fleeced” the Bears in the Trubisky trade, Foster is done and Solomon Thomas looks like a bust. Maybe being an NFL GM isn’t as easy as John Lynch thought it was..

  19. Cut him, John. Get this stink out of the building. It was a decent bet trading up, because dude can play. But the warning signs were there, and he didn’t hold up his end of it.

And then send a big THANK YOU card to the DA for pressing charges before the draft.

Cut his ass and let Jerruh sign him.

    ——————————

There was a reason Dallas passed on him in the draft (among other teams). SF was dumb enough to draft this loser. Nice try.

  21. The organization knew these charges were coming. You’re naive if you think otherwise. He’ll get suspended for half a season and will have a zero tolerance period moving forward. He’s an excellent player but the writing was on the wall with this dude.

This is far worse than the Ray Rice incident and includes probable jail time. He’s done.

    —————–

How is it worse? It would be worse if SF worked with Goodell to try to cover it up as a favor.

  23. Cut him – don’t cut him etc. I trust Lynch will make the right call. I am guessing it will boil down to cost – benefit. But if they cut him it would cost 5.7 million. Maybe trade him to Oakland??

  24. John Lynch is still learning on the job as a GM….he gave the kid the benefit of the doubt and the kid blew it. Lynch is pretty smart, and in the future won’t draft any players with ‘character issues’

  25. Jed York is one of these liberals who talks a big game about gun control and domestic violence… But let’s see what he does with his precious first round draft pick.

The league is going to crap? As if this type of stuff didn’t happen before the last 5 years? C’mon now. The league is no different now in terms of the crimes commited by players than it was 20 years ago. the only difference is now you hear about everything because of how easily and quickly information is spread, especially with regard to domestic violence.

  27. There was a run on woman beaters at the end of the first round, beginning of the second last year. Foster, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon

  28. When does this crap end? The league is going to crap. The people who play the game are so damn hard to root for. When are fans finally going to say enough I can’t root for these guys anymore. I am really at the point.

    ±±++++++++++++++++++++++
And yet… People boo Goodell at the draft because he has imposed discipline against these kinds of guys. The answer is “it will end when idiots who complain about Goodell realize he’s making the league better shut up “

  29. Surprised more teams do not have specialized personnel (i.e. Life Coaches) to work with these young men on a variety of skills and self inquiry practices? By definition, this game is predicated on “violence” which can be an enabler to the behavior we are discussing here….

An “Old Soul” or Elder type of figure for them to confide in could produce favorable results both on and off the field as well save millions in this type of investment. (Ahem!)

  30. Why I convinced myself to quit being an NFL fan…🤔 Ignorant jerks like this guy and Colin Kaepernick. I golf on sundays now and watch football on saturdays.

  31. Foster has all the qualities that the Dallas Cow Pies value. Put him in the backfield with the bearded woman beater. Matched bookends. BWB could teach Reuben about grabbing mammaries in public spaces and Foster could teach BWB how to really beat dem women.
