It's still Friday, barely.
So there's still time to post our 10-pack of takes for the coming weekend.
So here they are.

SportingNews.com: The potential power of a middle finger
Posted by Mike Florio on November 18, 2009 11:43 AM ET
The doubled-fisted middle finger that Titans owner Bud Adams gave to the Bills on Sunday could end up being worth far more than the $250,000 that he will donate to the Human Fund.
Both for Adams and his 31 colleagues.
Confused? Click here for the answer.

Week Ten power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on November 17, 2009 9:09 AM ET
1. New Orleans Saints (9-0) (Last week: 1). Bad teams with nothing to lose could pose the greatest threat to an undefeated season. Next up? The Bucs.
2. Indianapolis Colts (9-0) (Last week: 2). Like Apollo Creed at the end of Rocky I, the Colts don't want a rematch.
3. Cincinnati Bengals (7-2) (Last week: 6). Now that they can beat the good teams, the real challenge is whether they can dominate the bad ones.
4. Minnesota Vikings (8-1) (Last week: 5). What can a good quarterback do for a receiver? This year, Sidney Rice is playing like Jerry. Previously, he was as good as Condoleezza.
5. New England Patriots (6-3) (Last week: 4). Maybe Pats security chief Mark Briggs thought the guy with the camera was Matt Walsh.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) (Last week: 3). Maybe Jeff Reed thinks that if he makes a tackle he'll be arrested for assault.
7. Arizona Cardinals (6-3) (Last week: 9). Undefeated on the road and 2-3 at home, the Cardinals might want to avoid home-field advantage for the playoffs.
8. San Diego Chargers (6-3) (Last week: 10). The fact that L.T.'s wife is pregnant with their first child might cause some to wonder whether she'll be able to take care of two crying babies.
9. Baltimore Ravens (5-4) (Last week: 13). With two games coming up against the Steelers, a sweep by either team could knock the other one out of the playoffs.
10. Dallas Cowboys (6-3) (Last week: 7). The slow disintegration of the NFC East continues.
11. Houston Texans (5-4) (Last week: 12). Ah, the bye week. A chance to relax, sit back, . . . and watch every other team in your division win their games.
12. Denver Broncos (6-3) (Last week: 8). Two home games in four days (Chargers, Giants) will go a long way toward determining whether Josh McDaniels' first season in Denver is a success.
13. Philadelphia Eagles (5-4) (Last week: 11). Thanksgiving is coming, which means these birds have been playing like real turkeys. Again.
14. Green Bay Packers (5-4) (Last week: 16). Maybe Charles Woodson should play offensive line.
15. New York Giants (5-4) (Last week: 15). The good news? The Giants didn't lose for a fifth straight weekend.
16. Atlanta Falcons (5-4) (Last week: 14). The road doesn't get any easier this weekend against a rested Giants team in New York.
17. Miami Dolphins (4-5) (Last week: 18). Joey Porter should take Kramer's vow of silence, starting . . . . . now.
18. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4) (Last week: 20). If the kneel-down by Maurice Jones-Drew had resulted in a missed field goal, the maneuver would have been forever known as "choppin' wood."
19. San Francisco 49ers (4-5) (Last week: 21). The 49ers have finally found a quarterback who can consistently complete passes to their players. It's a shame he's under contract with the Bears.
20. Carolina Panthers (4-5) (Last week: 22). Another week, another key player lost for the year.
21. New York Jets (4-5) (Last week: 19). Maybe G.M. Mike Tannenbaum and Browns coach Eric Mangini will be working together again next year. In the UFL.
22. Chicago Bears (4-5) (Last week: 17). For a moment on Thursday night, it occurred to me that maybe Jay Cutler is actually trying to get Lovie Smith fired.
23. Tennessee Titans (3-6) (Last week: 25). In the never-ending quest for new revenue streams, the team will now be selling a new commemorative line of foam fingers.
24. Kansas City Chiefs (2-7) (Last week: 27). If the Chiefs aren't careful, they'll blow their shot at another top-ten draft pick.
25. Washington Redskins (3-6) (Last week: 28). On the same day the Redskins decided to allow fans to bring signs into FedEx Field, the team gave them a reason to make signs that didn't include swear words.
26. Buffalo Bills (3-6) (Last week: 23). Why do we have a feeling that at least one of Bud Adams' middle fingers was intended for T.O.?
27. Seattle Seahawks (3-6) (Last week: 24). Apparently, the meaning of the word "guarantee" has changed dramatically over the past four decades.
28. Oakland Raiders (2-7) (Last week: 26). Guys who run really fast always make for great receivers. And if they're fast enough, their speed might keep folks from noticing that they can't catch.
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) (Last week: 29). If they'd given Josh Freeman the snaps in training camp, they might have more than one win right now.
30. St. Louis Rams (1-8) (Last week: 30). We've got a feeling that, in their rematch with the Saints, the Rams will lose by a few more points than five. [Editor's note: As some of you have pointed out, the Rams and Saints no longer play in the same division. We apologize for our oversight. We forgot for a moment about the change. Which was made in 2002. And yeah this was easier than coming up with a new entry for the Rams.]
31. Detroit Lions (1-8) (Last week: 31). The Vikings let the Lions hang around, and they still found a way to lose by 17.
32. Cleveland Browns (1-8) (Last week: 32). In the end, the fans showed up. And, as usual, the team didn't.

Week Ten Morning Aftermath
Posted by Mike Florio on November 16, 2009 3:30 PM ET
We're back for another game-by-game look at the weekend that was in the NFL.
And under the guise of enhancing your reading experience (but with a selfish eye toward reducing the amount of time we spend on writing these things), we'll be focusing on one or two intriguing aspects of each game, in PFT style.
So here we go, with several from MDS and a cameo appearance from Rosenthal.
Colts 35, Patriots 34: William E. Belichick, Super Genius.
Bengals 18, Steelers 12: By sweeping the Ravens and the Steelers, Cincy wins the first-ever Myron Cope Trophy.
Jaguars 24, Jets 22: The touchdown Maurice Jones-Drew didn't score could be the most important one of the year.
Chargers 31, Eagles 23: The Eagles are sinking, the Chargers are soaring. It must be the middle of November.
Dolphins 25, Buccaneers 23: An ugly win has one key thing in common with a pretty win.
Packers 17, Cowboys 7: For a change, the Packers didn't lay an egg.
Redskins 27, Broncos 17: And now we know why Chris Simms didn't beat out Kyle Orton for the starting job.
Panthers 28, Falcons 19: Atlanta's failure not once but twice to take control of this one makes us wonder whether they really are moving in the right direction.
Titans 41, Bills 17: Between Chris Johnson, Vince Young, and Bud Adams, this is the most exciting 3-6 team in league history.
Cardinals 31, Seahawks 20: Seattle receiver Nate Burleson guaranteed victory, and he helped the effort with, um, no catches.
Chiefs 16, Raiders 10: Darrius Heyward-Bey might have missed his calling; he's apparently got great volleyball skills.
Saints 28, Rams 23: As they get closer to 16-0, New Orleans needs to beware bad teams with nothing to lose.
Vikings 27, Lions 10: The score is deceptive; the Vikings should have won by 30 -- and could have easily lost, thanks to a variety of blunders.

PFT's midseason awards, or something
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2009 11:46 AM ET
Last week, we were able to justify not doing the "midseason awards" thing because most teams had yet to play eight games -- and because too many of you were paying attention to the final days of the World Series. (Now that baseball season is finally over, wake me up when it's time to go back to sleep.)
So we are now compelled to engage in the inherently meaningless exercise of dubbing certain players with titles like "Sir Loin of Beef" and "Sir Osis of the Liver."
Why? Because you want to see what we think, so that you can then call us idiots.
Our MVP, as previously explained in a PFTV segment and on NBC with Peter King and Jimmy Roberts, is Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Though Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has better stats and is winning in the midst of plenty of changes and challenges, there's something about the way that Brees pushes the buttons of his players, getting performances above and beyond their otherwise maximum ability.
Others deserving consideration are Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
But Peyton Manning is the our offensive player of the year, to date. He's on pace to break the single-season passing yardage record -- and it's no surprise. He has been playing long enough to be as smart and savvy on the field as a long-time head coach, but he still has the physical skills that made him the top pick in the 1998 draft.
On the defensive side of the ball, the player of the year thus far is Saints safety Darren Sharper, and we've got a feeling that, at some point in January, the Vikings will sorely regret not bringing him back, if they don't already. Though Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was a close second in our complex formula (slips of paper and hat), 7.5 of his 10.5 sacks came against "Baby Swiss"; Allen has only 3.0 sacks in six other games. Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil is in the conversation, too, with 10.5 sacks. (His failure to show up in the last two games hurts him, however.)
Offensive rookie of the year? Vikings receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin. Without question. He already has mastered the short routes of the West Coast offense, he has solid hands, and he returns kickoffs like a man among much slower men. If they can teach him how to field punts, he'll be a well-rounded version of Devin Hester.
Texans linebacker Brian Cushing is the defensive rookie of the year, in our view. He has helped beef up a defense that needs to improve in order to better complement a high-end offense. Bills defensive back Jairus Byrd gets consideration, too.
Coach of the year presents our biggest conundrum. And an opportunity to eat the biggest slice of humble pie. So we'll go with Chilly a/k/a Brad Childress, in large part because he recognized that quarterback Brett Favre would be a huge upgrade at quarterback, even without being at training camp. Chilly also gets bonus points for dressing in drag on the team plane and for keeping a straight face (for the most part) while talking about Brett Favre rubbing his own groin.
Worst coach? Eric Mangini of the Browns. Do we really need to explain this one?
The executive of the year (and again this one requires us to mutter "Newman" a time or two) is Colts G.M. Bill Polian, who picked the right guy to succeed Tony Dungy and has otherwise made the right moves to ensure that the team hasn't missed a beat, despite considerable change in various capacities.
The worst executive is also Eric Mangini, since he had the juice in Cleveland and then when it blew up he tried to blame it all on the worker bee, George Kokinis. Mangini should have traded one of his two subpar quarterbacks before the season, and he should have drafted in the mid-to-late rounds a young one to develop. And he shouldn't have rounded up so many Jets players who were just good enough to get him fired from his last job.
The best free-agent signing came when the Bengals managed to keep tailback Cedric Benson around via a fairly favorable contract. Fortunately for the Bengals, not many teams were paying attention to Benson's ability to move the chains late last season on a team that had no passing game.
The worst free-agent signing is a N.O.-brainer. It's T.O., who based on his performance should have ads for the second season of his reality show printed on a milk carton. He definitely made the Bills relevant, until the games started.
We might add a few categories later. But it's too close to lunch and I'm distracted by thoughts of pan-frying last night's leftover pizza. (If you've never pan-fried leftover pizza, you should by a pizza tonight for the sole purpose of trying it tomorrow. You can thank us later.)

SportingNews.com: 10 biggest surprises so far
Posted by Mike Florio on November 11, 2009 11:23 AM ET
With 30 teams having eight games in the bag and only two (Giants and Texans) playing a ninth, it's a good time to reflect on the first half of the 2009 season.
SportingNews.com is taking a broader view of the first half of the season this week, and our contribution is to look at the 10 biggest surprises of the year to date.
Here's no surprise. You can read it all right here.

Week Nine power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on November 10, 2009 8:36 AM ET
1. New Orleans Saints (8-0) (Last week: 1). Maybe the Saints are just trying to keep things interesting by spotting double-digit leads to inferior opponents.
2. Indianapolis Colts (8-0) (Last week: 2). The toughest remaining test for an undefeated regular season comes on Sunday against the Patriots.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) (Last week: 3). How in the hell did this team lose two games?
4. New England Patriots (6-2) (Last week: 4). Why are all the people who were writing this team off in September suddenly silent?
5. Minnesota Vikings (7-1) (Last week: 5). While watching the Packers lose in embarrassing fashion to the Bucs, Brett Favre might have again aggravated his groin injury.
6. Cincinnati Bengals (6-2) (Last week: 7). If Chad Ochocinco were really trying to bribe the officials, he wouldn't have used cash -- he would have gone with a bad check.
7. Dallas Cowboys (6-2) (Last week: 11). No matter what Tony Romo does the rest of the regular season, the pressure will be crippling when he plays his next playoff game.
8. Denver Broncos (6-2) (Last week: 6). Cinderella apparently slipped and fell on a McDonald's bag.
9. Arizona Cardinals (5-3) (Last week: 15). If the Cardinals are true to form, they'll now lose to the Seahawks, Rams, and Titans.
10. San Diego Chargers (5-3) (Last week: 17). This is the last team the Colts want to see in the playoffs.
11. Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) (Last week: 8). The Eagles might be throwing a red flag on talk of a new contract for Andy Reid.
12. Houston Texans (5-4) (Last week: 10). Owner Bob McNair will have a tough decision to make if the Texans barely miss the playoffs.
13. Baltimore Ravens (4-4) (Last week: 9). The guy who looks like Bert has been playing more and more like Ernie.
14. Atlanta Falcons (5-3) (Last week: 16). Raiders coach Tom Cable doesn't think Falcons coach Mike Smith did anything wrong during that sideline chat with DeAngelo Hall.
15. New York Giants (5-4) (Last week: 12). Between the decisions made this weekend by Tom Coughlin and Andy Reid, Jim Zorn is no longer the clearly dumbest head coach in the NFC East.
16. Green Bay Packers (4-4) (Last week: 13). At least the sudden hot seat will help keep Mike McCarthy warm during the November and December games at Lambeau Field.
17. Chicago Bears (4-4) (Last week: 14). At least the sudden hot seat will help keep Lovie Smith warm during the November and December games at Soldier Field.
18. Miami Dolphins (3-5) (Last week: 18). A week after the Dolphins found motivation in the yakking of the Jets, linebacker Joey Porter gave the Patriots motivation by yakking. Sounds about right.
19. New York Jets (4-4) (Last week: 19). We're surprised that coach Rex Ryan wasn't boasting about how the bye week would never be able to beat the Jets.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4) (Last week: 21). As crazy as it sounds (and it sounds extremely crazy), this team still has a chance to make it to the postseason.
21. San Francisco 49ers (3-5) (Last week: 20). With all the time he spends talking about making the playoffs, we wonder whether coach Mike Singletary realizes his team has lost four games in a row.
22. Carolina Panthers (3-5) (Last week: 22). A valiant effort, but moral victories don't keep head coaches from getting fired.
23. Buffalo Bills (3-5) (Last week: 23). Yeah, Mike Vick would solve all of this team's problems.
24. Seattle Seahawks (3-5) (Last week: 24). Should beating the Lions really count as a win in the standings?
25. Tennessee Titans (2-6) (Last week: 29). Jeff Fisher should be fired for keeping Vince Young on ice for so long.
26. Oakland Raiders (2-6) (Last week: 25). The psychological evaluation of coach Tom Cable will begin and end with the following question: "Tell me why in the hell you took this job?"
27. Kansas City Chiefs (1-7) (Last week: 26). Larry Johnson got what he wanted.
28. Washington Redskins (2-6) (Last week: 28). A 2-14 finish isn't out of the question.
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-7) (Last week: 32). It's a good thing the Bucs waited until Josh Freeman was ready. They might have lost their first seven games if they had rushed him into action.
30. St. Louis Rams (1-7) (Last week: 30). The Saints. Are coming.
31. Detroit Lions (1-7) (Last week: 27). Coming soon, the Browns and Lions will battle for the right to screw up the first overall pick in the draft.
32. Cleveland Browns (1-7) (Last week: 31). There's nothing like a quiet, uneventful bye week to help stabilize a horrible team.
2. Indianapolis Colts (8-0) (Last week: 2). The toughest remaining test for an undefeated regular season comes on Sunday against the Patriots.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) (Last week: 3). How in the hell did this team lose two games?

Week Nine Morning Aftermath
Posted by Mike Florio on November 9, 2009 2:30 PM ET
Every Monday, we take an in-depth look at every game on Sunday, one game at a time.
And we rank them from the best game to the worst, as determined by a variety of complicated and convoluted factors. (Actually, we just write the games on pieces of papers and pull them randomly out of an old Baltimore Colts tuque.)
This week, we welcome MDS to the effort, who is taking the reins fortwo three of the 12 games.
Saints 30, Panthers 20: Maybe New Orleans is spotting teams more than 10 points just to make things interesting.
Chargers 21, Giants 20: In the end, Tom Coughlin had more faith in his defense than in Eli Manning.
Colts 20, Texans 17: Maybe the Texans fear that God will kill them if they ever become successful.
Buccaneers 38, Packers 28: Losing to the Bucs is the low point for the Packers franchise since the guy who beat them in Week Eight arrived 17 years ago.
Cowboys 20, Eagles 16: Andy Reid might want to sign his contract extension before this year's implosion fully takes hold.
Cardinals 41, Bears 21: Kurt Warner continues to mimic Louisiana natives; last week, it was Jake Delhomme and this week it was Peyton Manning.
Patriots 27, Dolphins 17: Joey Porter said plenty and did nothing; Randy Moss said nothing and played big.
Bengals 17, Ravens 7: The bigger test for the Bengals might be the coming trio of easy games.
Titans 34, 49ers 27: Apparently, San Fran coach Mike Singletary thinks losing games enhances a team's playoff chances.
Jaguars 24, Chiefs 21: Close wins over bad teams won't save Jack Del Rio's job.
Falcons 31, Redskins 17: Atlanta needed something a little more convincing to get back on track for the playoffs.
Seahawks 32, Lions 20: With all of the winless teams getting victories, Detroit is getting closer to reclaiming its rightful spot among the worst the NFL has to offer.

SportingNews.com: 2010 coaching carousel could be a wild ride
Posted by Mike Florio on November 4, 2009 12:14 PM ET
Exactly two months from today, one or more NFL head coaches will learn that their services no longer are required.
This year, the number will likely be a lot more than one.
So for our midweek submission to SportingNews.com, we take an early look at the teams that might be looking -- and where they might look.

Week Eight power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on November 3, 2009 8:06 AM ET
1. New Orleans Saints (7-0) (Last week: 1). We're starting to think that maybe Reggie Bush was right.
2. Indianapolis Colts (7-0) (Last week: 2). Want more evidence of anti-parity? In the same season that the Rams reeled off 16 straight regular-season losses, the Colts have now racked up 16 straight regular-season wins.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) (Last week: 4). To anyone who thinks a football player who knows the full risks of head injuries would quit playing football, we suggest entering "Steelers safety Ryan Clark" and "Denver" into your favorite search engine.
4. New England Patriots (5-2) (Last week: 5). The similarity between the Jets and the Dolphins? Both aren't intimidated by the Patriots. The difference? Miami coach Tony Sparano will never say so publicly.
5. Minnesota Vikings (7-1) (Last week: 6). With the NFC North practically in the bag, the bigger challenge is to force the road to Miami through Minneapolis.
6. Denver Broncos (6-1) (Last week: 3). The Broncos are in the process of learning that there's a big difference between the AFC West and the AFC North.
7. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) (Last week: 7). With 4,500 tickets for Sunday's game against the 4-3 Ravens still unsold, we'd hate to see how empty Paul Brown Stadium would be in a "normal" Bengals season.
8. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) (Last week: 9). Even with Terrell Owens long gone from Dallas, Philly fans probably will be chanting "T.O. sucks" on Sunday night.
9. Baltimore Ravens (4-3) (Last week: 13). The Ravens learn that the best way to avoid losing close games in the final minutes is to keep the games from being close in the final minutes.
10. Houston Texans (5-3) (Last week: 15). Maybe Steve Slaton can be moved to tight end.
11. Dallas Cowboys (5-2) (Last week: 11). Beat the Eagles, and this team gets into the top ten.
12. New York Giants (5-3) (Last week: 8). This might not be the ideal time for Eli Manning to be facing the team he so famously spurned.
13. Green Bay Packers (4-3) (Last week: 10). The Packers should have saved some of those boos for a few of the current members of the team.
14. Chicago Bears (4-3) (Last week: 17). After spewing blood Gene Simmons-style on Sunday, Jay Cutler's new nickname should be "Dr. Love."
15. Arizona Cardinals (4-3) (Last week: 12). For Halloween, Kurt Warner shaved his face and started talking like he's from Louisiana.
16. Atlanta Falcons (4-3) (Last week: 14). The Falcons can concede the NFC South without a request for a recount.
17. San Diego Chargers (4-3) (Last week: 20). Getting nervous, Denver?
18. Miami Dolphins (3-4) (Last week: 21). Despite his strong performance, Ted Ginn wasn't drafted with the ninth overall pick to return kicks.
19. New York Jets (4-4) (Last week: 16). The Jets are 1-0 against the Patriots, 0-3 against the rest of the division.
20. San Francisco 49ers (3-4) (Last week: 18). Only the coach of a team in the NFC West could guarantee a playoff berth in November with a sub-.500 record.
21. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) (Last week: 19). Maurice Jones-Drew is quickly becoming this generation's Barry Sanders -- the brightest spot on a chronically mediocre team.
22. Carolina Panthers (3-4) (Last week: 24). Less Delhomme equals more success for the Panthers offense. If John Fox had figured that out in September, the Panthers might have a couple more wins.
23. Buffalo Bills (3-5) (Last week: 22). If before the season the Bills knew they'd have more wins at the bye than T.O. has touchdowns, they would have been pretty damn excited.
24. Seattle Seahawks (2-5) (Last week: 23). When will someone ask this Jim Mora is he thinks his team can make it to the "playoffs"?
25. Oakland Raiders (2-6) (Last week: 25). The light might finally have come on for JaMarcus Russell . . . other than the one inside his fridge.
26. Kansas City Chiefs (1-6) (Last week: 26). Larry Johnson probably wouldn't be $330,000 lighter in the wallet if he'd merely said "light in the loafers."
27. Detroit Lions (1-6) (Last week: 27). The Buccaneers really wish they played the Lions this year.
28. Washington Redskins (2-5) (Last week: 28). Based on the schedule, 2-5 likely will become 2-10.
29. Tennessee Titans (1-6) (Last week: 32). Maybe Jack Del Rio will be wearing a Vince Young jersey this week.
30. St. Louis Rams (1-7) (Last week: 31). It's fitting that, ten years after one of the rare losses for the Greatest Show on Turf came at Detroit, the only win for the Greatest Turds on Show happened there, too.
31. Cleveland Browns (1-7) (Last week: 29). Firing a G.M. during the football season makes about as much sense as seeking a second opinion from a doctor before getting sick.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) (Last week: 30). The old creamsicle duds are making a return appearance at the most appropriate time possible.

Week Eight Morning Aftermath
Posted by Mike Florio on November 2, 2009 3:00 PM ET
It's Monday, and that means it's time for a game-by-game look at Sunday's slate of NFL games.
We provide an in-depth take (in comparison to our typical ADD-influenced postings) for each one, from the best game of the day to the worst, as determined byour blue-ribbon panel my own inherent and subjective biases.
Vikings 38, Packers 26: Brett Favre gets his wish, sticking it twice to the team that nudged him out the door and then bolted it shut and barricaded it with large pieces of furniture.
Dolphins 30, Jets 25: If coach Rex Ryan continues to suggest when the Jets lose that the better team failed to win, someone might eventually figure out that Ryan could be the reason for it.
Eagles 40, Giants 17: Three straight losses by the Giants have folks wondering whether they've fallen on hard times -- or whether they simply aren't any good.
Ravens 30, Broncos 7: Baltimore blind-sided (product placement!) the Broncos, with the once-dominant defense doing the job on a day when the Ravens scored 30 or more for the fifth time in seven games.
Colts 18, 49ers 14: Eight years after these two teams played and Colts coach Jim Mora didn't want to talk about playoffs, Niners coach Mike Singletary is talking about playoffs.
Texans 31, Bills 10: In the same year a cop kept Ryan Moats from entering a hospital, the Buffalo defense couldn't stop him.
Titans 30, Jaguars 13: Tennessee reverses the curse of the Terrible Towel, thanks to 228 yards from the running back who didn't do the stomping.
Panthers 34, Cardinals 21: For Halloween, Kurt Warner apparently dressed up as Jake Delhomme.
Cowboys 38, Seahawks 17: Contrary to the beliefs of many Dallas fans, beating a bad Seahawks team by 21 points doesn't equate to, you know, winning a playoff game.
Rams 17, Lions 10: St. Louis snaps a long losing streak, and Detroit continues to build on its newest one.
Chargers 24, Raiders 16: This one was closer than expected, but the expected outcome still occurred.
Bears 30, Browns 6: Not winning this game by 24 would have said a lot more about the Bears than the victory does.

SportingNews.com: Week Eight 10-pack
Posted by Mike Florio on October 30, 2009 8:22 PM ET

So here are ten takes for the coming weekend of games, from SportingNews.com.

SportingNews.com: Lack of NFL intervention in Cable case suggests double standard
Posted by Mike Florio on October 28, 2009 11:48 AM ET
We've been troubled for weeks by the failure of the NFL to roll up its sleeves and get to the bottom of the Tom Cable-Randy Hanson situation.
Given that the league instantly rolled up its sleeves and is getting to the bottom of the Larry Johnson situation this week only highlights those concerns.
So here's a closer look at our concerns, and some ideas as to why it might be happening.

So here's a closer look at our concerns, and some ideas as to why it might be happening.
Week Seven power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on October 27, 2009 8:13 AM ET
1. New Orleans Saints (6-0) (Last week: 1). The road to the Super Bowl goes through the Superdome.
2. Indianapolis Colts (6-0) (Last week: 2). After two straight bye weeks, the Colts get three straight home games.
3. Denver Broncos (6-0) (Last week: 5). "If the Broncos win one more, then they're for real."
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) (Last week: 6). Jeff Reed's beer muscles will come in handy next year, when he's working at a bar.
5. New England Patriots (5-2) (Last week: 7). In their bye week, the Pats are still good for at least 30 points.
6. Minnesota Vikings (6-1) (Last week: 3). If Brett Favre wins at Lambeau, it might be the last time he ever sets foot in that stadium. (Unless he plays for the Vikings again next year.)
7. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) (Last week: 9). "If the Bengals win one more, then they're for real."
8. New York Giants (5-2) (Last week: 4). "If the Giants lose one more, then they're not for real."
9. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2) (Last week: 11). During Monday night's pregame, receiver DeSean Jackson inadvertently paid homage to Ralph Wiggum by uttering the word "unpossible." (ESPN already has offered Jackson a post-football job as an analyst.)
10. Green Bay Packers (4-2) (Last week: 12). Nothing makes a bad offensive line look better than playing a bad defense.
11. Dallas Cowboys (4-2) (Last week: 15). Maybe after the season the Lions will offer the Cowboys a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick for Miles Austin.
12. Arizona Cardinals (4-2) (Last week: 16). The Cardinals have won three in a row, and only one of the defeated teams was from the NFC West.
13. Baltimore Ravens (3-3) (Last week: 13). "Thanks for nothin', NFC North."
14. Atlanta Falcons (4-2) (Last week: 8). Michael Turner won't have to worry about being overlooked for MVP consideration this year.
15. Houston Texans (4-3) (Last week: 17). If they make the playoffs, there will be no more dangerous team than the Texans.
16. New York Jets (4-3) (Last week: 19). The "Sanchize" is a hot dog that falls apart after three bites. (Yeah, we used it yesterday. Sue us.)
17. Chicago Bears (3-3) (Last week: 10). Maybe the original Coach Teflon (Mike Shanahan) will be replacing the new Coach Teflon (Lovie Smith).
18. San Francisco 49ers (3-3) (Last week: 14). The return of Alex Smith means that it's one big step closer to the arrival of the Nate Davis era.
19. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) (Last week: 20). Getting to 4-3 will be a lot easier if they'll be facing Vince Young instead of Kerry Collins on Sunday in Tennessee.
20. San Diego Chargers (3-3) (Last week: 21). That 30-point win over the Chiefs means the Chargers have no excuses for continuing to hover around .500.
21. Miami Dolphins (2-4) (Last week: 18). With trips to New York and New England on tap, it might be over before the middle of November.
22. Buffalo Bills (3-4) (Last week: 24). The appropriate saying before each 2009 Bills game is, "May the best team find a way to blow it."
23. Seattle Seahawks (2-4) (Last week: 23). The Seahawks are in great position . . . to watch the Cardinals and 49ers battle for the NFC West title.
24. Carolina Panthers (2-4) (Last week: 22). By next year, Bill Cowher's spittle will contain tobacco juice.
25. Oakland Raiders (2-5) (Last week: 25). Hey, Richard Seymour. Will you be guaranteeing a Super Bowl win next?
26. Kansas City Chiefs (1-6) (Last week: 26). Running back Larry Johnson's next line of defense? "I was commemorating the annual London game by using their term for cigarettes."
27. Detroit Lions (1-5) (Last week: 28). Only in this anti-parity year could the Lions rise by not playing.
28. Washington Redskins (2-5) (Last week: 27). Is it just us, or is Matt Millen the last person who should be talking about the Redskins' struggles?
29. Cleveland Browns (1-6) (Last week: 29). The players had the flu, and the fans have nausea.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) (Last week: 30). With seven points, at least the Bucs scored more on Sunday than Man U.
31. St. Louis Rams (0-7) (Last week: 31). Lose on Sunday at Detroit, and 0-16 could be a reality.
32. Tennessee Titans (0-6) (Last week: 32). Colts coach Jim Caldwell wore a Jeff Fisher mustache this week because, as Caldwell explained, "I wanted to feel like a porn star."
