SAL PAL SAYS FAVRE IS LYING

It’s been a big week for 790 The Zone in Atlanta.  Six days ago, Ravens defensive end Terrell Suggs made some comments that created quite the national stir.
On Thursday morning, we started receiving e-mail after e-mail from folks who heard an interview of ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio on 790 The Zone’s Mayhem in the A.M.
During the spot, Paolantonio weighs in on the Brett Favre situation.
Paolantonio clearly believes Jay Glazer’s report that Favre helped the Lions prepare to play the Packers, notwithstanding ESPN’s official “please move along, there’s nothing to look at” position.
“Do I think what he did was wrong?  Yes,” Paolantonio said Favre, who reportedly flatly denied Glazer’s report on Sunday night but seemed to stake out a middle ground during a Wednesday press conference.
“Favre has to be smarter than that, and he was never terribly smart,” Paolantonio said.  “He feels like he can just lie. . . . You can’t lie, because (a) you’re Brett Favre and (b) we’re gonna catch you on it.  So you’re lying.  That’s the biggest problem I have with this whole thing.  Just own up to it. . . .
“The whole thing is just implausible that he would not just come out and tell the truth.  Just tell the truth. . . . He gave the story legs.”
But what of the fact that the Lions still were blown out?
“So you weren’t very much help, and you aren’t very much help to the Jets,” Paolantonio said.  “So go home.”

  1. I really wish Favre would just shut the hell up and go away..I dont care what any one says the Packers were right when the finally gave him a deadline to decide if he was gonna quit.He is a diva and his act is getting old

  2. ive been saying it for years. favre is and always will be a jerk…no matter how much ESPN worships him & portrays him as a god

  3. Why is cheating only a big deal if the team cheating wins? Cheating is a big deal no matter what, and as far as I’m concerned, while it’s not against the rules explicitly, it is highly unethical. If I was a Jets fan, I’d be upset that my quarterback was more concerned about the Lions and the Packers then his own team coming up against a HUGE division rival. Maybe, if he had focused more on that game, the Jets would’ve won.

  4. Palantonio should shove it. This whole thing has gone on too long already. The Packers have a great win against the Colts and the only thing we can talk about is Favre again.

  5. My gosh, Sal Pal bringing the ether!
He’s on the money, though. It’s time to pack it in Favre…
    j.

  6. Sal Pal hates Farve, but what’s ironic is that he hates Farve more than Terrell Owens and that’s a first from an ESPN Employee. lol

  7. sal is a putz , he is just going against the grain to be a media who errr. Sounds like a jim rome wanna be segment. Please sally don’t send paulie to whack me or maybe suggs or lewis. On a side note doesn’t that ho sugs sound like the guy from boys 2 men?

  8. ““So you weren’t very much help, and you aren’t very much help to the Jets,” Paolantonio said. “So go home.””
    Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

  9. Considering Sal Pal was critical of Brett Favre’s retirement and the hype that he got from it, I find it ironic and somewhat comical that now he is the source calling Favre out for lying. Sal Pal obviously has a bias against Brett Favre and it’s him and not Brett Favre that will give this story legs. Sal Pal has had almost zero relevant stories in the last few years and is mostly a forgotten journalist at ESPN. The two big name stories he’s been involved in this year have been a) his saying Brett Favre was not worthy of the hype he was receiving at his retirement announcement and b) right now by calling Favre a liar. Seems he’s a little stuck on his hatred of Favre and it’s the only way he’s in the news anymore. Used to be a time when he got as much air time as Mort and Clayton…not so much anymore.

  10. WOW indeed. Looks like Sal Pal wont be at the head of the Favre konga line when they vote on him for the HOF.

  11. Why is it when anyone calls Lord Favre out, they are a Favre-hater. I could care less what the old guy did, but if I were a jets fan i’d be po’d he is so worried about his old team instead of trying to win for his new team.

  12. i’m sure the good senator from penn, arlen spector will get to the bottom of this and find the the patriots recorded the call and that’s how they beat the eagles in SB39. PLEASE!

  13. Who the hell is Sal pal? His idea of confirming anything is to check the National Enquirer. This thing is blown way out of proportion. NOBODY CARES!! Florio, do you hear that?? God, it’s grade school crap. Let’s get some reporting. All of you people with pen and web sites and nobody can track down Millen????? Journalism is DEAD in America..replaced by bloggers and sites that spew hate and rumor…not fact. Florio, this may be a blog site but before you tear down anyone’s reputation at least try to confirm the damn thing. Close to leaving this place forever…

  14. This would be a much better story if the Lions had won the game. Now it just seems like a big cat fight as 3amigosalute says.
The more this goes on the harder it is to tell who has the most sand in their vagina, the press or the Farve.

  15. I love our country for always waiting on facts rather than guys who think something happened. Was Glazer or Sal there? No! You can have your opinions but you dont have to bash Favre. We know nothing on this situation.

  16. Lay off the bitter beer, Sally. Maybe you should go home too.
I’m sure we’ll hear reports of how Favre helped the Vikes too, what with the ‘not a Packers cell phone’ records from before the season…

  17. Side note
ESPN is reporting the story that Syracuse has hired a recruitment firm to find a coach for the football team.
The Syracuse AD is saying that report is not true.
    ESPN is reporting the story…………..
Following the same reasoning used in the Favre story shouldn’t they not report this until ………..
    Confused Florio fan

  18. The Favre nuthuggers attack everyone on a personal level… EXCEPT FAVRE. Anybody have ANYthing critical to say about Favre? Well, then they must have an “agenda,” right? But of course Favre has no agenda.
Favre is a psycho ex girlfriend who wants to destroy Ted Thompson, because Thompson wouldn’t let him run the team. He threw his best friend James Campen under the bus this summer and now he’s hurting his former teammates and supposed friends, all out of his obsession with Thompson.
    BIGGEST CANCER IN LEAGUE HISTORY.

  19. Goofy name changes…
    Swollen balls…
    Traitors…
    Liars…
    Cheaters…
    Spitters…
What is wrong with me ?
Why do I have an interest in any of this ?

  20. Sal has always disliked Favre. He only cares for teams and athletes that have spent their career in the northeast. He has always looked down on small-market teams, and Favre spent most of his career in one. Sal is an east coast snob.

  21. Sal Pal is overrated. Who cares about this Favre nonsense?
Only overrated people like Sal Pal.

  22. Okay – so Greenbay is starting to look like NASA shuttle pilots for going with Rogers. Hats off to the Cheese brain trust.
Is this a big deal – no.
I’ve been watching football for over 40 years and cheating has always been a part of it. Not just the little personal stuff like this nonsense with Farve but lots of corporate level cheating.
John Madden was the funniest. Any Raider that handled the football had the seams on their jerseys bleached. When you tried to tackle a receiver/running back/kick off returner his shirt would rip off.
Madden also got caught with light footballs for the visiting team so when you threw or kicked them, they didn’t go as far.
Then there was the ‘stickem’ years. Receivers were covered in the glue like substance.
The Redskins use to open the stadium doors at one end of the field so opposing teams were kicking into a 30 knot wind and close them when the Skins got the ball back.
A very hot Vikings team got waxed at New Jersey in a playoff game with the Giants. The buzz was the Giants had bugged the Vikes phones. It was plausable. Seahorn was at the end of Moss’ route before Moss was. Not just once or twice but every play. It was like the Giants had a copy of the playbook. The Giants got crushed in the next game.
So Patriot Gate and the Farve’s 5th column are really minor considering some of the crap that has gone on.
There is too much money involved for this to be ‘scout’s honor.’

  24. I figured out Favre was a jerk since he announced he might retire.
For the fourth year in a row.
2 or 3 years ago, I heard him say “it’s not really my job” or something to that effect regarding being a mentor/tutor to the #2 quarterback. What class.

  25. By the sound of it I think Sal is tired of Mort and the Cryptkeeper from getting the limelight and is positioning himself for a position at Fox Sports.

  26. Sal is going to get in trouble for going off the ESPN talking points. If you work for ESPN you are only allowed to speak your mind if it suits the ESPN agenda.

  27. Notice Sally doesn’t have any actual facts. This is only opinion, and he’s been a Favre hater from way back. He has no understanding (nor does Florio) of what responsible journalism means. In his world, anyone can make an accusation, and if Sally likes it, he believes it. Was he in the car? Did he hear the conversation? Has he talked to Millen? None of these people who claim Favre was lying have any first-hand knowledge of the conversation; how can they know so much? The answer is, they don’t.
    God, what a nonstory.

  28. Sal is an asshole who has never had a good word for Favre or the Packers. He can’t see past his Philly nose.

  29. Can any of the rocket scientist “who swear on Glazer’s shiny head” that this story is true explain how Favre can help the Lions game plan against the Packers when he clearly wouldn’t know the game plan for 2008? Don’t you have to go to, I don’t know, the mini-camps and training camps to know the 2008 Packers “game plan”? Unless you totally believe the Pack is gonna use the same verbage and play calls as last season. Ok, we are talking about Matt Millen, nevermind. I’m sure Favre was helpful in pointing out how the Lions got beat by the Packers in 2007………

  30. I’d like to know who the “unnamed sources” are that fed Glazer the information. I’m not disputing the story or his claims, but there should be a law that banishes unnamed sources from journalism because it’s way to easy to cite “unnamed sources” to further your personal agenda. For example, I could post a story saying, “Sources wishing to remain anonymous told me this morning that PFT’s Mike Florio is really a closet transvestite who kicks puppies and hates babies.” Because my “sources” are anonymous, there is no way to validate the story.
Anyway, I still think the whole thing is much ado about nothing. Someone wanted a bit more press so they took an ant hill and turned it into a mountain.

  31. Damn – now more than ever before it seems like Favre and ManJudas were meant for each other.
Can’t you just see it – the Jets being stuck with Favre next season while ManJudas is fired, taking a job as a waterboy for another team and filling them in on how to beat Favre and the Jets?

  32. Back in September J-E-S-T nation was all hot & bothered about the Golden Boy Brett but in December they’ll be wondering why they bothered at all. He’ll be squawking about retirement again & he’ll leave the Jests with another forgettable season AND no serious QB in 09. Favre has two moves: the improbable miraculous end zone heave & the brutal game-losing “what was he looking at?” 4th quarter INT. He’s about as good a fit for the Jests as George Clooney was with “The Facts Of Life”. A dink & dunk offense with a wildly erratic bomb-thrower at QB. J-E-S-T Jest Jest Jest!

  33. In the middle of this big non story of he said, she said, Favre goes out and throw his customary INT’s (2 of them, one inside the red zone) and is a very big reason why the Jets lost to the Raiders.
    Karma anyone?
The game last Sunday is Exhibit A in why the Packers didn’t want Favre back, he gives away too many games and then afterwards, he will attempt to justify his poor decision making with a gun slinger mentality excuse.
Go ride your stupid tractor in Mississippi, better yet, convince the Vikings to give up the three #1’s for your sorry ass. I can’t wait till he retires for good.

  34. Who gives a shit what Sal P-diddy said about this?
Sounds like he’s a much bigger asshole than Favre…”go home”..yeah right, how about his sorry ass climbing back into the bushes?
I’m not a Packers or Jets fan, or Favre worshiper…who gives a shit about this non-story? I’m so tired of hearing this lame shit I had to give my 2 cents.

  35. “Can any of the rocket scientist “who swear on Glazer’s shiny head” that this story is true explain how Favre can help the Lions game plan against the Packers when he clearly wouldn’t know the game plan for 2008?”
Ask John Gruden, the coaching staff, and the players of the Buccaneers Super Bowl team. They may have plenty to say about the benefits of that kind of information. John Lynch was quoted as saying after the Super Bowl blowout victory that the defense felt as if they’d already played the game because of how well Gruden had coached them on the tendencies of the Raiders team he was so intimate with.

  36. No he is guilty because Sal Palintonio thinks so.
How many beatings does this skeleton of a dead horse get??

  37. So I take that Sal’s not a Favre fan.
Sal does sound kinda bitter, though. I’m not surprised that Sal thinks Brett is lying, but I sure as hell would like to know why Mr. Pal seems to dislike Brett so much. I’m sure there is a reason that isn’t quite as simplistic as the “hater” excuse.
God, I HATE the word “hater.” Do you folks know what you sound like when you use such a mindless blanket term?

  38. So really what did Sal bring to this story? No new facts? Really. Just his opinion? Hmmmm…I really can’t believe that Florio is accusing ESPN of bad journalist ethics when he does it himself. If you are gonna call yourself an alternative press start acting like it.
So, Florio when can we expect to read an article of yours where a “journalist” is stikcing up for Favre?

  39. Sal Pan and his history of anti-Favre articles is not the best, most biased authority on the matter.

  40. What an idiot Sal Pal is.
Here’s what happened, as I see it. Matt Millen starts to get worried about his job and is increasingly desparate for things to turn around, in Detroit. He figures he can screw some information out of Brett Favre; Brett will talk to anyone, as he’s just that kind of guy, and he’s notoriously indiscreet (to my mind, Favre’s main crime in the last few years is not knowing when to keep his mouth shut). So Millen phones him and gets him chatting.
Brett gives away a few titbits about the way things worked last year in the course of his conversation, as he’s a bit, err, down to earth, and Millen goes away convinced he’s a Machiavellian genius.
Of course, this all bombs horribly, as the information Brett gives up is a incomplete and a little out of date, and, well, this was one of Matt Millen’s ideas and therefore subject to inevitable and humiliating failure from day one.
Word gets out about this, because Millen can’t help but crow about how clever he is. Favre feels like a total jerk, because he’s done something really stupid. He doesn’t call Matt Millen out on it that much, as he’s a bit too nice and besides feels guilty anyway.
And hey presto! The Sportswriters of America have something to write about.
To my mind, this reflects really quite badly on everyone concerned, but I actually have the most sympathy for Favre. Strangely, my opinion of Matt Millen just went DOWN. I’m impressed, I didn’t really think that was possible.

  41. Favre is a diva… The Packers did the correct thing for their team. They asked him IF he was going to come back. He said he was uncertain then he went to ESPN and cried “I don’t have anything left to give, yada yada yada” Then he get’s the itch to play again, petitions the league and wants the Packers to release him so he can sign with the Vikings. That told me he really didn’t care about the Packer Organization. Aaron Rodgers has attended the off-season programs and the OTA’s. Brett was down in Mississippi mowing his lawn he was too busy for the extra work of helping out the new players. The Packers told Favre they have moved on. I don’t blame them for this. I would challenge any Favre backers “Go tell your boss you quit, file all the papers & then comeback 5 months later would you still have your desk and your job? What did this guy expect?” He was insulted that someone else had his job and he wanted to be released, as a result of that they wouldn’t get any compensation for him. They were paying him 12 million/year. (for a part time job). They worked out a trade with the Jet’s. As a Jet his #1 priority should be helping the Jet’s not sticking it to his old team. HE IS THE ONE WHO QUIT ON THEM. What is wrong with this guy?

  42. I can’t decide whom hates Brett more.. Mike or Sal Pal…
Either way, I thought the move was a little shallow on Brett’s part.. but is getting a little “blowed” out of proportion as well.. seems to be the case with anything of news surrounding Brett.
But hey.. it sells and because of the lack of true journalists skills and integrity these days.. seems like a quick and easy topic to pen an opinion piece on. Well done Sal and the rest of the dregs trying to sell these voice.

  43. can you sense the animosity from SAL PAL. Youd almost think his hatred was because of personal reasons. Nobody cares about what SAL PAL has to say. Brett Favre is light years away from SAL the PAL. Go ahead SAL PAL keep up the animosity. I just hope what Brett Favre does always keeps you burning.
    Get over him.

  44. Sal Pal has had it out for Favre for a long time. He’s trashed him at just about any opportunity. I’m no Favre apologist, but Brett must have peed in Sal’s cornflakes once or something because he has a history of being far from objective where Favre is concerned.

  45. “I can’t decide whom hates Brett more.. Mike or Sal Pal…”
Neither, I do. Lifelong Packer fan who thinks hero worship is for suckers. No dickslap like Favre is above the team.
BTW, I heard Florio fondles goats.
