SANTONIO WILL SIT ON SUNDAY

Our buddy Tim Benz of WXDX in Pittsburgh tells us that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will deactivate receiver Santonio Holmes for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
Holmes was cited for marijuana possession on Thursday.
Tomlin declined to call the move a suspension.  Technically, teams are not permitted to discipline players who have been charged with drug or alcohol offenses.
Nate Washington will start in place of Holmes.  Dallas Baker and Limas Sweed will both be active for the Steelers.

  1. I always like Nate, let’s see what he can do as a starter. Maybe Sweed could get more than one snap? I mean he was a 2nd round pick.

  2. Why are teams doing this? In hopes that the league will reduce the amount of time they will suspend the player? Or to ‘send a message to their players’.
The message being, ‘don’t you guys have friends to take some heat for this?’
    ‘Cedrick?’ No friends??
    ‘James?’ “YOU ATE YOUR FRIENDS??”

  3. I’m glad to see it. It’s not punishement per se; Tomlin can start whomever he chooses. Hopefully it will send a message though. Nate’s a good receiver and the Steelers will still beat the Giants by at least a field goal, especially if Plaxico doesn’t play because of his ‘pain in the neck’.

  4. i don’t agree with that move coach. i hope nate steps it up. maybe coach is trying to sort of launch preemptive strike with this hoping the league will not impose more of a penalty since Steelers acted swiftly.

  5. Well played Coach Tomlin. Reduce distractions and show faith in your bench. Even if it costs this game, it will win others down the road.
The message for those who missed it: Stay focused on business or stay home!

  6. “Technically, the Steelers aren’t permitted to discipline Holmes separately. And they likely won’t, given that Holmes is a key contributor. (See Harrison, James and Wilson, Cedrick.)”
Florio, grab a copy of the Yellow Pages and see ball, crystal.

  7. Good move dumb ass. Biggest game of the season so far and he’s on the bench.
Now he can get baked watching OSU Saturday night.

  8. These players are all dumb!@! It’s not like they can lose this job and just go pick up another with the same pay… Ricky Williams will tell you that!!

  9. Keepin it short and sweet when a player on your fav team gets busted huh Florio? No smart ass comments?

  10. I applaud the sitdown but why’d it have to be this week ?? Damn. Luckily Nate’s playing great. We’ll see what Swede’s got as well.

  11. Maybe Santurdio can use his day off to visit his three children by two different women.

Sit him down and pay him, more than one brush with the law? Yeah, I think Goodell will be good with that. You’re right, I’m stunned the coach even went as far as sit him down. I would have made him Captain.

  14. What does that have to do with Santurdio getting a day off with pay for getting busted with drugs, Magoo? Deflect much?

There you have it. Certain teams, like the Giants suspending Plaxico or the Steelers sitting Santurdio get it. Others do the shuffle and it shows.

  16. yeah, vox is sitting there in his little glass house, meanwhile his team is the biggest assembled team of turds this side of baltimore. hey vox, how’s that superbowl run going for you?
