O’SULLIVAN GETS O’BENCHED

The good news is that the former starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers will now have plenty of time to devote to that chain of still-to-be-opened casual-dining eateries that bear his name. Shaun Hill is in, J.T. O’Sullivan is out. O’Sullivan’s slide likely was fueled by those 11 fumbles and 11 picks in seven-plus games. He was benched during Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. “We just felt like right now, Shaun gave us the best chance of winning,” coach Mike Singletary said Monday. “Some of the things that have happened with the turnovers and all that, J.T. just needed to take a little time and gather himself.” The move came on the same day that Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reported that the preseason quarterback competition was essentially rigged, with Hill’s shot being wiped out by a tired arm that he says he didn’t have. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz wanted O’Sullivan, and Martz got him. Now, it’s on to Hill, who’ll be asked to help dig the team out of a 2-6 hole.
