HALL TO THE REDSKINS

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that cornerback DeAngelo Hall has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins.
We’ve confirmed the news, and we’re told that it’s for the same prorated $1 million salary he would have received if he had stayed in Oakland.
We’re also told that the contract contains a commitment that the Redskins won’t use the franchise tag on Hall in 2009.
His selection of the Redskins resulted in part from the fact he grew up close to Washington, and that he was a Redskins fan while growing up.
Hall spent a lot of time talking with defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, and Hall likes the team’s extensive use of press coverage.
So, in the end, he’ll make the same amount he would have made in Oakland if he’d agreed to waive the injury guarantee applicable to the $16.5 million in 2009 bonus money and salary.  And he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
And he’s playing for a 6-3 team that is competing for a playoff berth.

  1. Ugh, don’t like this move. I guess he could be a good nickel CB, I trust Smoot, Rogers and Springs more than this guy. There has been talk of using him as a punt returner since Randel El has been sucking at that. At least it wasn’t a lot of money either, just wondering who’s gonna get cut to make room for him.

  2. Not anymore the Redkins aren’t. How to destroy a good team in one shot? Add a cancer to the chemistry.

  3. As a skins fan, I like the deal. He has been a baby, but I think that the Redskins locker room can keep him in line.

  4. His attitude is only part of the problem, the other part is that he flat out sucks and is living off the notoriety of his 40 yard time. Good news for Dallas and Philly fans, now Romo and McNabb can just target Hall all day for the sure win. You don’t even need great recievers.
Deangelo Hall sucks. THANK GOD he didn’t end up with the Steelers. I’ve been stressed the last 24 hours about this. Now, my relief is palpable.

  5. I’m a Redskins fan and I just threw up in my mouth. Say goodbye to the great team chemistry that Zorn has built.

  6. Did the Redskins laugh when Hall demanded to not be franchised next year?
As far as I can tell, the only team that thought he was worth $10 million a year cut him after 8 games. Being franchised seems to have been in his best interest, but I guess he still thinks he’s one of the best corners in the league.

  8. This is a good risk for the Skins. Springs has been a non factor for a long time due to his struggles with injuries.
Zorn has shown that he won’t hesitate to yell at either a star or a sub if they’re out of line, so I don’t think Hall’s attitude will be a problem.

  9. Danny likes collecting overrated talent. Just put “former Pro-Bowl pick” in front of a name and the ‘Skins will sign him.

  10. You gotta wonder how a guy who couldn’t stick on a bad Oakland team would improve a playoff contender, but we’ll see.

  11. probably the best depth at corner.
You kinda have to admit, he went to two crappy ass teams in his career. Now he’s gonna go to a winning franchise and not have to be the cornerstone of the franchise. I think he’ll thrive now that carlos rogers is gonna cover the top receivers. He’ll do good, if not, it was a win win for both. The skins didn’t risk much here.

  12. With Springs gimpy, Hall would make an excellent nickel back or starter in a pinch. He also would improve the matchups against Dallas and NY. If he can keep his mouth shut, he might stick next year. If not, it’s a one year deal with very minimal risk to the team.
He’s also young enough to turn his career around and is an instant upgrade in the return game. I like this move.

  13. How effective can he be half way through the season? Plus, this guy’s got all kinds of character issues. The Redskins never learn. You wouldve thought that after giving 2nd and 5th rounders for Jason Taylor and buying pretty much everyone’s garbage for the past ten years that they wouldn’t go out and get this clown. Hey Dan Snyder, learn something from your BFF Jerry Jones; you can not buy a championship.

  14. Hall is from the Chesapeake area. Maybe a return home will help him get back on track. He might fit our scheme better than Oakland.

  15. since when did hall become a shut down corner? he needs to shut his mouth and work on his covering skills

    ehhhh….how bout Randy Moss?

  17. Please try to tackle Brandon Jacobs straight up. It will be one of the best “welcome to the NFC East” moments ever.

  18. He and Smoot will be friends in no time, they share a common problem; they both can’t cover Steve Smith but like to tell everyone they can.

First of all, he’s been playing already half the season so it’s not like he’s out of shape. I agree about the character issues, I’m sure they’ll have him on a tight leash. Jason Taylor has been a 10+ sack player consistently for years, no reason to think that wouldn’t last until he got hurt in pre-season and again in regular season. We signed Taylor because we lost our starting DE, not to buy a championship. Yes Dan Synder has a bad past about signing high profile players but I think he’s learned his lesson… hopefully. They are paying this guy like $400k for the rest of this year, not bad for a backup CB and possible punt returner.

  20. Snyder tries once again to be like his hero Jerry Jones.
Funny how when Florio just MENTIONED that Jerry might sign Hall it was a stupid move, everyone ripped Dallas for it, and Hall was gonna implode any team he went to.
Now some of you same moronic posters are talking about how he is gonna be great, solidify the Deadskin defense, and shut down TO and Roy.
I love hypocrites and the Hog nation is FULL of them.

  21. Skins get bored so they started adding Steve Smith’s victim list to their roster…First Smoot now Hall? They would be better off without that cancer in their locker room especially after last year.
They had a good thing going this season too…

  22. But the good news is that Dallas now has to be favored to win! I am sure TO is thrilled to possibly line up across from Hall

  23. LOL. The Redskins are now the home for turds in the NFC East.
Hall has been toast this season, he’s allowed 44 completions in the 66 passes thrown his way. I have no idea why ayone would sign him.

    WTF?
He covered all of the #2 receivers in OAK and still got torched.

  25. Let me get this straight………He says he went there because he liked their “extensive use of press coverage”……lol…right…here Thats EXACTLY what he COULDN’T play in Oakland. Should have gone straight to Indy, N.E., Chi or Tampa (i.e. cover 2).
Here are his stats for this year:
    40 completions/66 attempts=61% completion rate against
40 completions for 522 yds (avg 13.8 PER CATCH)
#1 IN LEAGUE IN YARDS ALLOWED.
He has talent, but is brutally miscast in man/press coverage.
He is an effective tackler though, but all the catches in front of him provide ample practice.

  26. thank you “JESUS” he is not a Saint- yes we stink at the cornerback
position, however by not signing D.Hall- I think we just upgraded!

  27. mcnabb has alwasy torches hall when he was still in atlanta and its not like the redskins defense scares anyone in the league anyway. but its not like rogers and springs are upper echelon corners in the nfl either. i still think the top 3 cornerbacks in nfc east are all on the eagles (samuel, brown, shepperd)

Exactly. He was opposite Nnamdi A. and he gets very few passes thrown to his side because he’s just that damn good, so they picked on Hall and look how that’s worked out. #1 in the league in yards allowed and #3 in the league in completed passes against.
First game of the year, Hall got “debacled” by the rookie Royal in Denver. He’s overrated, he’s a chemistry killer, and a “me first” type of player. I never wanted him in Oakland and I’m glad he’s gone. Too bad Al Davis didn’t follow him out the door.

  29. I like the move for the reason it didnt cost the redskins anything. No draft picks, no long term contract, hell barely any money at all and for you guys thinking he will play #1 or #2 he wont. He is there for depth and return game and if he proves himself he will make the lineup.
Washington is #4 in total defense this year, he wont be forced to play. This is a trial for him because shaun springs is 33 and has talked about this being his last season. If he doesnt perform or becomes we wont give him a contract in the offense, and for what we are paying him if he simply has any issues or sucks there would be no reason in dropping him since we have almost no investment in.
Hall is from the Va area, some guy said chesapeake area right next to Va beach which has a heavy redskins base. If he claims he was a redskins fan growing up then I like the move.

Yea, they don’t scare anyone. That’s why they’re the #4 in total yards allowed (#7 in passing, #5 in rushing), which just so happens to be one spot ahead of your precious Eagles. You can have all the “best” corners you want, but when Clinton Portis torches your team for 145 yards and a TD those corners aren’t helping you.
