CHARLES GORDON SUFFERS NASTY ANKLE INJURY

Vikings cornerback/punt returner Charles Gordon suffered a nasty ankle injury when his leg got stuck under a Packers player while Gordon was returning a punt in the first half of Sunday’s game at Minnesota.  Though Joe Buck and Troy Aikman missed the fact (both live and via replay) that Gordon’s foot was pointing in the wrong direction once the play had ended, it was obvious when FOX went to commercial that something was horribly wrong.
After the break, Buck and Aikman acknowedlged the serious nature of the injury — but they decided not to air the replay again.
It wasn’t pretty, but it was no Joe Theismann or dude from Houston who broke his leg at Marshall.
We’ll be looking for the video of the Gordon injury on YouTube.  Someone had posted it a little while ago, but then promptly removed it.
UPDATE:  Here’s the video.  It’s got a Zapruder film vibe to it, but it’s the best version currently available.  Gordon is surely out for the year.  We wish him a full and quick recovery.

  1. Total class move by the Packers Defense to go up to him while he was on the cart and offer their well wishes.

  2. I agree with finfanJim. McCallum was the worst I’ve ever seen.
Oh, and Florio, I believe the film you refer to in this story is the MacGruder film.

  3. I was at the McCallum game at Stanford Stadium. I hate to see injuries like that. I hope the best for him.

  4. I feel for Gordon. I also feel for all of us that had to hear that horrible song in that video.

  5. I wonder if the playing surface had anything to do with Gordon’s foot being unable to detach from the turf. Do the Vikings still play on carpet covered concrete that is more fitting for handball than football?

  6. That was the knee that got bent at the wrong angle, not the ankle (at least, not right away–the ankle could have been collateral damage, though).
I was at that game today, and the speed with which they brought out the cart and the big equipment, combined with the way his foot was resting on the turf was truly frightening.
Note to all punt returners: this is why the fair catch exists.

  7. Do you post these videos for any particular reason? There is no reason for you to post these videos as you attempt to maintain your position as a “top” website for NFL informations….simply saying “this dude messed up his leg and will be out for the rest of the season” will suffice.

  8. 1) Crappy artificial turf.
    2) It is the Metrodome, the worst arena in the NFL.
    3) He fielded a punt on his 10 yard line.
    4) When you get the punt; run. Don’t dance around.
    5) Another reason to move the franchise out of the Metrodome.

  9. I hope he will be ok, I dont know what this injury does to a player but he does a lot of things right. Such a shame to get such a bad injury like this.
And is the McCollum guy the Raider who got stood up at the line and then his knee bent backwards? I remember that.
