Henry Ellard spent 11 years playing wide receiver for the Rams and has coached their wideouts for the last eight but he’s leaving the organization.
“It’s hard to believe,” Ellard said Saturday. “It’s been a wonderful eight years. It’s sad that it comes to an end, but in this profession you know it happens.”
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Ellard is heading to New York where he’ll be coaching wide receivers for Rex Ryan and the Jets. The team has had no comment, however, and still lists Noel Mazzone as the wide receivers coach on their web site. This morning’s Daily News reports that Ellard joins James Lofton and Mike Johnson as candidates for the job.
The Daily News also reports, via a league source, that Dennis Thurman will be the Jets secondary coach. Thurman held the same position with the Ravens. The Post-Dispatch, also via a league source, says that Charlie Baggett, late of the University of Washington, will be the new Rams wide receivers coach. Baggett worked with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur at Michigan State for eight seasons.
