JETS RELEASE DAVID BARRETT

Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum announced that the team released cornerback David Barrett on Tuesday afternoon. Barrett had one year at $3.71 million remaining on the contract he signed with the team as a free agent in 2004, an exorbinant amount for a player who was only a full-time starter in his first year with the club. In his five years with the Jets, Barrett started 37 games and intercepted 12 passes. He had one interception in 2008, which he returned for a touchdown against the Chargers. Barrett’s release leaves the Jets with Lowery, Drew Coleman and Darrelle Revis as cornerbacks signed for 2009. Ahmad Carroll, Ty Law and Hank Poteat are all unrestricted free agents.
