LYNCH’S LEGAL WOES COULD BE FRED’S FINANCIAL GAIN

Lost in the recent arrest of Bills running back Marshawn Lynch is the reality that his backup, Fred Jackson, is a free agent. Though Jackson is an exclusive-rights free agent, which means that his options essentially are to play for the Bills or no one, the possibility that Lynch is currently on the Pacman Jones/Chris Henry career track makes the position a potential priority for the Bills. Last season, Jackson rushed for 571 yards in 16 games, with three starts. In the regular-season finale, Jackson gained 136 yards in a 13-0 loss to the Patriots. Per a league source, Jackson is looking for a multi-year deal, and the money that goes along with it. The Bills would be wise to consider protecting themselves, either via Jackson or someone else. With Lynch now facing his second legal entanglement in less than a year, the Bills could soon be longing for the days in which the biggest problem facing one of their running backs was finding his helmet.
