SINGLETARY WANTED T.O.?

The San Francisco 49ers were one of the more enigmatic players in the pursuit of one of the most enigmatic players in league history.
Officially, G.M. Scot McCloughan said that the door was open to Terrell Owens.  Unofficially, members of the organization were saying that they didn’t want Owens.
Now that the dust is settling on what ended up being a two-day process, we’re told that coach Mike Singletary was open to the possibility of bringing Owens back to town, five years after he left.  Singletary, as we hear it, believed that he could get through to Owens and persuade him to be a good teammate.
The front office, however, held firm — and the 49ers were never serious suitors, and Owens signed with the Bills.

  1. If there were any coach who could truly handle T.O it would be Singletary.

  2. That’s the trouble with the 49ers…afraid to take a chance…yes he’s a pain but someone’s with Singletary’s cred might have gotten through to him (i.e Chicago Bulls and Rodman)…sometimes you kill the bear…sometimes the bear kills you.

  3. I can see it now, TO comes back and then Mike convinces Jeff Garcia to come back and then the Super Bowl win. I’m pretty sure that’s how it would go…

  4. 49ers have a quarterback, shaun hill has impressed me. If he started for the skins last season im pretty sure we would have made it to the playoffs and with the way the playoffs turned out, the superbowl as well. Only thing that held my skins back last season was campbell.

  5. i could already imagine it now t.o. trying to split the locker room in half like hes been known to do this is were singletary steps in and pulls down his pants then t.o. has an epiphany and realizes how much of an ass hes been to all his teamates in the past and the san francisco 49ers still short fall of a playoff berth.

  6. At what point do Niners fans realize that Mike Singletary is not the linebacker with the crazy eyes but a 50-year-old clown who dropped his pants in the locker room during a motivational speech and who learned the finer points of coaching from such brilliant minds as Mike Ditka, Mike Nolan and Brian Billick?

  7. He’s a promising coach and capable of handling Owens but you gotta have a strong QB too.
Which is by Buffalo will fail…they have neither.
They do have fans with duracells however.

  8. I guess Mike didn’t notice he’s the only idiot coach that made TO look good last year.

  9. “yes he’s a pain but someone’s with Singletary’s cred might have gotten through to him”
Singletary’s cred? The man has part of a season under his belt, I believe the jury is still out. And at that the drama from his 1st game as a coach had a lot of folks questioning his abilities.

    YA THAT AND THEY SUCK!!!!!

  11. No quotes and no source? And you “hear” that Mike Singletary was open merely to the possibility of thinking about considering T.O.? Yeah, I hear things too. I hear that lots of coaches were open to the possibility of thinking about considering T.O.

  12. Yea I agree that Sing would probably be the only coach that would not put up with any of T.O.’s BS– BAzooka

  13. year one isnt the problem. year two is.
frisco is better off without the jackass. buffalo will find out why…
