Oregon’s Byrd Cracks The 4.7 Barrier

University of Oregon cornerback Jairus Byrd ran a 4.71 in the 40-yard dash at a private workout, according to a league source. Byrd was unable to work out at the NFL Scouting Combine or a March 13 Pro Day due to a groin injury. According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, Byrd ran a 4.68 and a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash, writing that Byrd has excellent quickness and agility. Although Byrd has good size at 5'10, 201 pounds and is one interception shy of the Ducks’ all-time record with 17 picks, he obviously lacks recovery speed. The best 40-yard dash ever connected to Byrd is a 4.56 from previous years. At the private workout, Byrd registered a 35-inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times. Byrd is the son of former San Diego Chargers cornerback Gill Byrd.
