Crabtree Diss Of Raiders Disappears From NFL.com Chat

Receiver Michael Crabtree, who is already sounding at times like a guy who at some point will be publicly thanking his hands or doing sit ups in his driveway or nudging traffic cops with a car bumper or all of the above, made another ill-advised comment on Thursday.
The remark came during a live chat on NFL.com.  According to RaiderBeat.com, Crabtree had this to say when asked about whether he wants to play for the Raiders (and, apparently, about whether he’s cocky):  “I’m not cocky at all,” Crabtree said.  “People talk, man, but I’m a cool guy.  As for playing for the Raiders, no comment.”
Hmmmmm.
But the odd thing about this one is that the live chat currently contains no such “no comment” comment.  But it does, however, contain a subsequent reference to the exchange.

Q:  “Why did you say no commit [sic] to playing for the raiders?  Does that mean you wouldn’t like to be a raider[?]”

A:  “No, I’d like to play for whoever picks me.”

Yeah, right.
We’re starting to get the feeling that, come Saturday, this guy will be sliding like Aaron Rodgers stretching a single into a double on a baseball diamond made of freshly Zambonied ice.
UPDATE:  Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times tells us he saved the question that Crabtree was asked about the Raiders, and Crabtree’s response.  From bigjayboogie:  “You’re going to look good in silver and black. . . . what do you say to those who say you are cocky?”  Said Crabtree in response:  “I’m not cocky at all, bigjayboogie!  People talk, man, but I’m a cool guy.  as for playing for the Raiders, no comment.”

  1. Best Twitter post response time yet – hopefully draft day will be near real time, some of us are relying on your Tweets Florio!!

  2. Don’t insult Aaron Rodgers by comparing him to this douche. At least Aaron conducted himself with class before, during, and after the slide. Crabtree is going to be a hot mess if he doesn’t get drafted top 10.

  3. Although the “no comment” comment is certainly a bit peculiar I don’t think you can really call it a diss. Unless not ranting and raving about how much you’d want a partular team to draft you is now a diss.

  4. This is why these kids need to listen to their handlers, er…i mean chapperones…uh, Agents. “You don’t have to ‘keep it real’.”

  5. He is just confident… that’s all. All these problems are because of the media. All they do is start up stuff and drag him into it cause he didnt run a 40. They are not bugging other top draft prospects. He is honest. I would pick him… i would play for the Raiders only becuase im a Garcia fan and most likely he will start for them unless Russell shows them whats up.

  6. Doesn’t that make him classy? He doesn’t want to play with losers, what’s the big deal? The Raiders still have no QB, maybe they should start there.

  7. This guy is turning into a total moron. He gets more of his foot in his mouth every time he opens it. And to top it off, Al Davis would draft him anyway even after him saying this.

  8. Why shouldn’t he be jumping for joy to join the raiders, after all they have been doing such a great job of developing the high draft talent they are collecting.

  9. The Broncos haven’t exactly excited their fans by trading Cutler, but they got great picks plus a QB that’s way better than Jamarcus.

  10. The exchange is back in there now if it was missing, the first line.

You’re going to look good in silver and black…. what do you say to those who say you are cocky?

I’m not cocky at all, bigjayboogie! People talk, man, but I’m a cool guy. as for playing for the Raiders, no comment.

  11. Slide, baby, slide… all the way to #10….
Crab is best player in this draft.
We need a talented player in SF with a little chip on his shoulder… key word being TALENTED….

  12. Hope he falls so tampa can select him with the 19th, don’t think that was really a bad answer.

  13. sniff… sniff….. starting to smell like a TURD. That means he’s going to get drafted by Cincinnati or Cleveland.

GOOD CALL! I think this guy is just stupid. I heard his interview today on Jim Rome’s TV show. I was wondering who took his tests for him at Texas Tech.

  15. I love the amazingly low threshold PFT but especially its commenters have for “character”. Not all college football players are Tim Tebow, btw. Crabtree doesn’t respond to every question with humble yes sir/no maams, so somehow he’s scum? Seems like a pretty average guy to me. No problems in college, his teammates loved him, etc. This all seems to come from Magini and the Browns not liking him, which I think should up his draft stock, not hurt it.

  16. I also can’t see him slipping any further than #10 with the 49’ers. But I think the Jags will grab him at 8 if he’s there.
As for the “no comment” comment. While it may have been in poor taste, I don’t think it’s a big deal at all and it certainly doesn’t make him a bad guy or anything. The Raiders are a joke (thanks to Al Davis) and I definitely wouldn’t be faking excitement to play for them if I were entering the NFL.

  17. So he said “no comment”. What’s the big deal. If the Raiders pick him and he really doesn’t want to be there….then trade his ass for players and picks….Sheesh

  18. There wasn’t a simpler metaphor to describe Crabtree sliding? I feel like we need a Family Guy flashback for that comment, Peter Griffin….I mean, Florio. Derp.

  19. Hey hes a weener . Should have know you were a Broncos fan. You should just shut your pie hole. Your team traded a FRANCHISE QB . Enough said. >LOL

  20. I agree he won’t fall past #10 with the 49’ers. But I really think the Jags will take him at 8 if he’s there.
As for the “no comment” comment… while in poor taste, I don’t think it’s a big deal at all and certainly doesn’t make him a bad guy or anything. The Raiders are a joke (thanks to Al Davis) and I definitely wouldn’t be faking excitement to play for them if I were him.

  21. this guy has been a real ass in every interview i have seen him in on espn….. think what a team will have to deal with in the locker room and in contract talks ………….. red flag t.o owens type…… hope the browns dont draft him

  22. Relax Raider fans, Davis will draft Maclin. He is faster, and will kill on punt and kickoff returns.

  23. There are several problems with this post. The author started it by making a hockey reference. Then string888 and hesawinner got sidetracked by cheap and inaccurate comments. Crabtree will get picked early, no matter what he says or doesn’t say about any particular team, and he will ooze early optimism and admiration for his new employer. And then everyone waits for up to three years to see who was right,

  24. Maybe I’m just being the Devil’s advocate here but what if he said that because he has a pretty good idea that he is infact going to be a Raider.
It could be that he just isn’t smart/smooth enough to come up with a way of answering the question without giving anything away.

  25. Let me see if I understand this… the guy showed the good judgement of NOT wanting to play for the Raiders…
And this is going to cause other teams to question his character and result in his slide, why?

  26. At least he is not being a bitch like Eli Manning and saying – I won’t play for your team cuase I am a Manning an entitled to do whatever I want. And its not fair because everyone loves Peyton more than me.

  27. I say nab him at 6 and dump OchoDouchebag anywhere.
Crabtree can’t be a bigger pain that Chad. Period. Plus he will
actually play WITH SOMETHING TO PROVE. Chad lost that hunger two years ago.
But, to “keep it real” we need an OT with 6, but, hey everyone..it’s MIKE BROWN, so
    any thing is possible, right?

  28. he’s an idiot. whoever takes him will regret it soon after.
helovesmesomeme. all ya need to know…

  29. al davis will draft him out of spite if he falls, then let him sit unsigned for 2 years just because he is an a-hole.

  30. “Relax Raider fans”.
    S–t don’t worry about us.
I wasn’t hoping for his slow, diva a$$.
The only time he’ll be movin’ with any speed
is when his car slides into a bus during a DUI stop.
My only wish is chcgokoala is with him. (Great name)….
    ‘night

  31. “No comment” Doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t want to play for Oakland. When I first read it I had a similar thought but then figured he probably didn’t want to say anything in favor of one team or another. Granted, saying “I’ll be excited to play for any team that drafts me” would have been smarter than “No comment” but I don’t think he meant to diss the Raiders.

  32. I don’t see any particular diss in the exchange. Perhaps he’s already been in discussions with the Raiders and isn’t at liberty to comment on them. Perhaps his agent has told him to “no comment” any specific team questions. That’s no diss.
I’m not one to always accuse you of making up stories, Mike, but this one is just ridiculously piling on a guy you don’t seem to like.

  33. HEY FOR THE RAIDERS TO BE SUCH LOSERS ALOT OF PEOPLE SURE DO HATE THEM SO MUCH.. BUT ALOT FANS HAVE NO ROOM TO TALK.. MAYBE ONLY PITTSBURGH FANS CAN TALK AND PATROITS FANS(EVEN THOUGH THE RAIDERS PUT A STOP TO THAT DYNASTY BEFORE IT STARTED BUT THE REFS STOLE THE GAME)!!!
COWBOYS – HAVENT WON A PLAYOFF GAME SINCE 96
    CHARGERS/KC – NEVER WON A SUPER BOWL
    BRONCOS – ONE QUARTERBACK FRANCHISE
MIA/BUF/NYJ – O THEY ARE SO GOOD, LOL
SEA/AZ – NAME THE LAST TIME THEY HAD CONSECUTIVE SEASONS WHERE THEY WENT DEEP IN THE PLAYOFFS
STL – ONE HIT WONDERS 99 SEASON
SF – STEVE YOUNG/ JERRY RICE ENOUGH SAID
BALTIMORE – WON A SB BUT HAVE BEEN FAR FROM DOMINATE
    CINCY/CLEVELAND – BUAAAAH!!!
    JAX/HOU/NO/BUFF/ – LOL
STOP ACTING LIKE THE RAIDERS ARE THE WORST THING GOING, EVERY TEAM HAS THEIR DOWNTIME, NO TEAM HAS DOMINATED THE LAST 40 YEARS… AS YOU CAN SEE RAIDERS HATERS YOUR TEAM MAY NOT BE THAT BETTER THAN THE RAIDERS AFTER ALL…
***THIS DECADE 3 DIVISION TITLES, SB APPEARENCE, 2 AFC CHAMPIOPNSHIP GAME BECAUSE THE THIRD ONE GOT STOLEN FROM THE RAIDERS IN THE SNOW…. U WISH YOUR FAVORITE UNDRACHIVING TEAM HAD THIS DECADE… THINK TWICE BECAUSE YOUR TEAM MAY NOT BE THAT HOT!!!!!!!!1
RAIDERS NATION LOVES THE HATE. KEEP IT UP HATERS!!!!!!!!

  34. if buffalo wants to package 11, and 28 to move up to 5 to get andre smith, then the browns would draft 1 slot ahead of the giants. that could get interesting.

  35. I love how it’s vouge to crack on Al Davis, and the Raiders all the time. I’m a Raider fan and I know the Raiders have been down since 2002. Most teams have had down times, and some havent really had many consitent good times. I say this to say if the Raiders do good all of the haters will keep on talking stupid anyway. As far as Crabtree the kid is entitled to his opinion, I hate the fake players who always say the politically correct answer to sound good to trick the average fan. The only thing matters is if the Raiders draft Crabtree, will he perform? If he does who cares if he gives a no comment on what about playing for the Raiders?

  36. this is so lame. He said no comment so he doesn’t come of like he wants to play for one team over another. Another press ignited meaningless comment.

  37. i’m sure he wouldn’t make it past 29… justin tuck would make sure to let crabtree know what’s up.

  38. The Raiders are a horrible organization. Why would anyone want to play for them? I have went to a Raider game in Oakland, once. Never again. Your required to be a drunken blundering fool, who starts fights, because your team is horrible, no highier than an 8th grade education, and some missing teeth. A real trashy event.
I’ve seen Raider fans get securities boot print on their face for starting fights with people because they are fans of the opposing teams. The Raiders should be playing at a prision near you.

  39. Okay Florio is now out for Crabtree….. Sheesh…. First it was Kurt Warner, someone else, then now Crabtree…. I think Florio has it in his DNA to try to be the story instead of reporting the story…. Oh yeah is entourage consists of his Mom and his Father “Big Mike”……

  40. The Browns are talking w three teams the titans, the jets, and raiders trades for edwards , but detroit is seriously considering Edwards fo the twenty pick and with derek anderson thrown in

  41. Crabtree is a baller. No doubt! C’mon Al, select Crabtree to couple with J-Rock, Run DMC, and Miller. Do it!

  42. demir dakid your right to a certain point. But, the Chiefs have won one superbowl. They beat the Vikings. But,
I do agree with you on several fronts.
As a long suffering Chiefs fan I was 3 yrs old when they won there only superbowl. Actually the Chargers are the only one in the division that has not won one..

  43. jortiz01…maybe you should stay home. I have also been there and I thought it was fun. I also have been to Philadelphia and I thought it was much worse. Here in Kansas City everyone partys before the game and alot of people go in sh-t faced and yes there is fights. When ever there is alcohol involved there is gonna be fights and rowdy people. Last year I was at a Chiefs vs Broncos game and seen a guy get cold cocked for spilling his beer on a girl. He also had a Jay Cutler jersey on so that probably didnt help the situation much.

  44. Big deal. So prospects are no longer allowed to have an opinion? When they get close to giving an opinion it’s going to make them drop? Another Florio non-story.
How far would Elway slide if he shared his opinion about where he doesn’t want to go? How about Bo Jackson? Eli Manning? They slid pretty far. #1, #1 and #1.
Crabtree won’t go number one, but he’s sure as hell is not out of the top 10.

  45. It goes both ways jortiz01.
I’ve seen plenty of Chargers, Broncos, Chiefs, Patriots, Jets, etc. etc. fans tossed from Raider games for being “drunken blundering fools”. I don’t know what section you sat in, but when ever I go to Raider games, I’m usually sitting next to some highly intelligent fans. Some Raider fans, some opposing team fans.
I will say this though, Network Associates Coliseum is a sad sight to see.
Since 2002, I haven’t had much to cheer for, and the seagulls who invade the coliseum in the fourth quarter don’t help.
Not only did I have to see Oakland play like sh*t, but I have to wipe off the bird sh*t from the seagulls too.

  46. demir_dakid:
Good lord man. Step 1, hit the Caps Lock key. Step 2, talk about what your team is doing presently, not 10 years ago.
I mean, congrats on being 2000-02 conference champions! Congrats on losing 2 out of 3 AFC Championships and getting slaughtered in the Super Bowl!!
You say no team has been dominant the past 40 years but tip the cap to the Pats because they have been good for 8? The Patriots were one of/the worst teams in the league in the last century – Pat dominance has emerged in the last 10 years (during which time the best QB the Raiders have fielded was… Rich Gannon). Steeler lore (present and past) smashes the Raiders.
So really, if it’s hate Raiders want, keep talking like you do. Because the bottom line is, Oakland has a pathetic team of divas and wannabes with a dynamic RB who can’t stay healthy.
Have fun living in the past.

  47. I also don’t see a diss here. Just a kid acting out with all the attention he’s getting. If he’s any good really, he’ll buckle down once he faces off against pro secondaries & gets his ass handed to him. If he’s not, he’ll just be another millionaire washout.

  48. My point was that the nfl is so much of a parody that teams like the raiders Can turn it around quickly just like the phins did…
Yo dave61 you said the browns are trying to trade edwars to the browns, jets, and raiders? Where did u hear that at? The raiders should not give up a first for him

  49. Slow, doesn’t know when to shut his mouth, thinks he’s the next incarnate of Jerry Rice…
Oh my God, it’s Freddy Mitchell!!!

  50. Rolltide has got it right about his character. And why think this makes him stupid? Saying “I don’t want to play for the Raiders” doesn’t necessarily mean “I will only play for the Cowboys,” which would be stupid for (a) being overdemanding and (b) thinking that playing for the Cowboys would ever result in a Super Bowl victory, or at this point, a playoff win. If he’s just expressing where he’s going to have a hard time being cooperative, why not let everybody know?
And even if this is evidence that he’s a primadonna, why think that makes it a bad idea to draft him? It took a long time before T.O. was destroying locker rooms, and he won a lot of games as he went along. Only a few years back the Bengals were a Carson Palmer away from knocking the Steelers out of the playoffs, and Chad Johnson was a huge part of that. He could always grow up and turn into the next Randy Moss. I don’t think any of this will matter for the Raiders, though; Crabtree will be long gone before they pick.

  54. Anyone coming out of college, projected to go in the top 10, about to make millions of dollars before he even takes the field, should be happy to be on ANY team.
Having said that, I wouldn’t want to play for the Raiders either. I don’t think the comment was anything more than his honest reaction.
Does anyone remember Eli Manning publicly stating that he didn’t want to play for the Chargers? No one gave him any crap about it. Crabtree’s comment was very low profile and discreet compared to Mannings behaviour. The media needs to shut up and quit making a big deal out of it.
    Eli’s a classless punk!!!

  55. The only way i see us picking Crabtree at 1.6 (if he is there) is if we have some kind of draft day trade for Oline help in exchange for Chad or a pick in the 1st thats high enough to address an OT Need.

  56. I really don’t see the big deal here… How can it possibly be a diss just to say no comment? Of course he cant say what he would look good in, he doen’t want to have it come back to bite him in the behind, if the Raiders doesnt select him… It would just be plain studpid to go out and say how much he would love to play for the Raiders iof he ends up elsewhere!

  57. He didn’t “dis” the Raiders…
The Raiders “dis” themselves every year they give out millions and millions of guaranteed contracts on guys like Javon Walker and Tommy Kelly when other teams won’t give out a third of what they offered…
By the way, did Crabtree have his father “Archie” muster up a trade with the Chargers before the draft because he was whining about not wanting to play for them ??? This is just posturing… I like it though…
Like the other posters, let him slide to 21 baby…

  58. Hold on a minute….why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that he means that he doesn’t want to play for the Raiders?
Could it be that perhaps Oakland has already told him that he will be their pick at #7(like they did with DMc last year), but don’t want him to disclose or comment on that? Later in the blog, he states that he’ll play for whomever picks him….Hmmmmmm……

And they did all that with a .395 winning percentage. Imagine what they could do if they clawed and scratched their way to .500!
They had some nice seasons in 2000-2002. But over the last six years they’ve won 25% of their games, never winning more than 5 in a season and always getting high draft picks. And the organization has been a mess. Personally, I don’t think they’ll do anything until Al sells the team.

Wow. Um.. OK, if potential were the goal Russell would be worth something. It’s not and he’s not.
You named 4 WRs, none of which are on the team.. Meanwhile, the Raiders’ actual signed WRs are absolute crap. Leading receiver in 2008 BY FAR was the TE. Ron Curry started 10 games and amassed a total of 19 catches for 181 yards. That’s a season? That’s more like a game and a half. Johnnie Lee Higgins had 22 catches for 366 yards. Chaz Schillens caught 15 balls for 226. So two WRs cracked that elusive 200 yard receiving mark, and not by much. That’s pathetic. Where do they find these guys? Johnnie Lee Higgins and Chaz Schillens? Who are they?
Nnamdi.. I’ll agree he’s on a (very) short list of the best corners in the league. But it’s pretty dense to say “Best corner alive since Deion retired.” Did Deion die when he retired?
Bottom line: the Raiders are a mess. And this isn’t coming from a “hater”. These are just observations from an objective source.

  60. “No comment” is hardly a diss of the Raiders. A diss of team is Eli Manning saying before the draft that he will not play for San Diego. A diss of a team is John Elway refusing to play for Frank Kush/Baltimore Colts. What Eric Crabtree said could hardly be put in those legendary disses.

  61. unfortunately because of his recent attitude, he will more then likely be there if the seahawks pass on him. I was hoping Andre Smith was going to fall to us at 7 but it now appears he maybe the first tackle taken. Which leaves us with Macklin or crabtee, and with that dilema, i have “no comment”

  62. Just can’t imagine the cockiness of the last few years of Wide Receivers. He is showing a slight look into his real image. No one wants to have a Terrell Owens again. I hope that the Raiders take Jeremy Maclin over Crabbs and not look back to second guess. What idiots these guys are when they stand to be financially secured for a god-given talent….Go Raiders!!!

  63. I just can’t fathom the attitudes of Wide Receivers these days. One TO is enough. I am hoping the Raiders will draft Jeremy Maclin anyhow. Amazing how these guys with such god-given talent who can make enough money to be financially secured for the rest of their lives. Crabtree is putting himself in the position of falling down the draft to the point of losing a lot of money.

  64. God I hope the Packers don’t take him. Ignoring this particular incident, the guy sounds like a douchebag. He’s got “Mini-TO” written all over him.

  65. My last two posts are almost the same for I didn’t know if the first one went thru…2nd round I think we have to move up a bit to try and get Alex Mack, center for he has a bit of knowledge blocking in the ZBS…I also like Everett Brown, not sure if the Raiders can pull that one off??
