Favre Working Out With Local High School, Again

Quarterback Brett Favre has remained publicly silent about his possible Second Annual Unretirement.
But his actions might be telling the whole story.
Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently reported that Favre again is working out with a Hattiesburg high school team.
“His arm is there,” said J.D. Simpson, friend of Favre and chaplain of the Oak Grove high school team, told Souhan.  “He’s had the same problem with his left arm that he’s having with his right.  He told me John Elway had the same problem in his last year.  It’s a certain throwing angle or motion that hurts.  It doesn’t hurt all the time, though, and just looking at him throwing, you can’t tell there’s anything wrong with it.”
To prove his point, Simpson had this to say:  “I help out with the receivers, and he threw a few that bounced off some facemasks out there.”
So either Favre can still bring the heat, or Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.
Regardless, even if Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress last week that Favre won’t be playing, we simply won’t believe it until Favre isn’t lining up under center for Minnesota in Week One.
“I think this decision is tougher for him than any of them,” Simpson said.  “He really sees Minnesota as a legitimate team that can go all the way.  I think in his mind he was retired, but the quality of that team makes this a tough one.”

  1. Typical winner’s attitude.. I’ll keep switching teams until we get to a superbowl – and I’ll get credit for it. The media was pretty light on Jason Taylor, but he sure made an ass of himself.

  2. Although he may technically be eligible to play for Oak Grove, my advice to Brett would be to just focus on earning his degree and not distract himself with sports.

  3. Rumors, you got to love it, he said, she said, an insider said, a friend said, as I alway say “Rumors are like rear ends, everybody has one but some are bigger. Have a great day and that is not a rumor.

  4. Here’s a better title for this post: “Favre Prepares for Vikings Receivers by Throwing to High School Kids”

  5. Does Steve McNair’s son still play WR out at Oak Grove, or is he graduating this year?

  6. bus cook: come on, brett, one more big fat contract for the both of us!i told jay cutler to roll over in 2 games too!

  7. The only hope I have is that having Favruh in there signals Childress’s last year. That guy is tu-tu-tu-tu-turrble

  8. This Simpson guy doesn’t quite get it does he? If you’re going to tell the media stuff that Favre doesn’t want them to know, at least come up with a better pseudonym than combining two of your favorite literary giants, i.e. JD Salinger and Homer. That would be like me combining my two favorite hotel chains and calling myself Eight Six.

  9. Since when do High School teams have Chaplins? Do they strive to get offers from colleges with the hopes of making the pros someday? What will Childress think of his potential QB working out at a high school? I guess it’s a step up from working out in a strip mall parking lot.

  10. “That’s what I love about football. I get older, but they stay the same age…” – Brett Favre

  11. okay,, now that was funny. ol’ alligator arms williamson has cousins in old mississip

  12. I love being part of the problem…
Keep feeding the meter with Favre stories, Florio. As much as everyone bitches, they still keep reading, and reading, and reading, and reading…

  13. I know a while ago you posted a picture specific to the case of Brett Favre, Florio, so if you could, can you please post that ‘Brett Favre House of Waffles’ pic up for us all to remember the Waffling of Brett Favre?

  14. Please, please, please play with the vikings – and mess them up like you did to the packers last year!

  15. Nice one Florio with the Williamson reference, you should post a link to a youtube video of that happening. That made my day.

  16. How can any team still consider this guy an option. His so called “throws” are more like forward fumbles. He has no arm strength left. He’s not accurate anymore. He can’t move in the pocket, eats too many sacks, turns the ball over too many times. Makes way too many bonheaded throws.

  17. No matter what happens with Favre over the next 2-3 months, one thing is for certain…Jay Glazer, the ‘i’m balding, so I’ll shave my head guy with short man complex’ will write about some alleged hot tip regarding Favre retiring or not retiring. And it will inevitably include a negative spin to it…
You’re so jealous, Jay. And short.

  18. Favre’s twisted rage against Ted Thompson is what makes it hard for him to retire.

  19. whew! that was close…the Favre Fire was dying down, good thing Flo is always ready with his gas can!

  20. The report said he was throwing LAST MONDAY. The story is dated for Sunday. It’s old news. Why didn’t anyone have that before? Makes you wonder if he was throwing, then it was really hurting the next day. Because that’s when he supposedly called off Chilly (if you believe yahoo) or when he supposedly sent X-Rays.

  21. “So either Favre can still bring the heat, or Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.”
    BURRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNN

  22. Did anyone else picture Peyton Manning in that mock United Way commercial he did on Saturday Night Live when they read about Favre bouncing passes off the high schooler’s facemasks?

  23. The newspaper report is from a story on Sunday. The school chaplain said he was throwing on Monday. By definition, that would have been LAST Monday (May 4th). One wonders how his arm felt the next day when he either called off Chilly (if you believe Yahoo) or sent X-rays.

  24. Please stay away you ego maniac! You were once great, but just come to terms and please stay away!

  25. Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.”
    WAHAHWHAWHAHWHAHHUAHUAHAHA!!!!!!
give me a QTF book for your own great quote~!

  26. Isn’t the Oak Grove high school team Mascot a guy dressed in a life size Brett Favre suit?

  27. I love that fact that Florio hates Childress and Williamson….Either that or they are just really easy to make fun of. I am guessing the reason Childress didnt keep Williamson around was because they Patend “EYE TEST” he always gives to players, didnt work, explaining the reason for the Nike eye doctor. Keep up the hate FLO!

  28. Maybe they are filming a wrangler commercial that they can play during every game at every break again.

  29. “So either Favre can still bring the heat, or Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.”
that was such a good line it deserves to be quoted twice. lol

  30. Playing against those guys is the same talent level as playing against NFC North teams. Good practice I would imagine. ROBBLE ROBBLE.

  31. That’s kind of harsh to attribute all the drops to cousins of Troy Williamson, they might be related to Darrius Heyward-Bey.

  32. “Isn’t the Oak Grove high school team Mascot a guy dressed in a life size Brett Favre suit? ”
They’re the Oak Grove Warriors, with an Indian chief as a mascot.

  33. You can’t blame Williamson on Chilly (though there is plenty to blame) — Troy was inherited. Mike Tice, however, has been duped not once but twice by “The Man With The Hands Of Stone” but seeminly bionic eyes..

  34. I know that Brett is going to…………….hahahaha who cares… he’ll fall apart soon after the season starts even if he does return.
Did he invest with Madoff or something?

  35. Favre belongs with the Packers and no place else.
What other state has that inbreeding Mississippi vibe going on like Wisconsin does?

  36. >What other state has that inbreeding Mississippi vibe going on like Wisconsin >does?
States where high school football teams have chaplains.

  37. Throwing to high school kids will help Favre transition smoothly over the Vikings with the receivers they do have on their roster.
Next up, Favre will start hanging out with 5th graders (reading at the 3rd grade level) to prepare for interaction with the head coach.
He will have to ride the little yellow school bus to get used to the Viking fans.

  38. So what your really saying is that since the arm only hurts on certain throws and angles that Favre’s suckage last year wasn’t the product of injury but of Favre just going downhill in general?

Every pass Favre throws to those HS kids is one less throw for the Vikings
    LOL. Sad be SO true

And yet, Glazer has an impeccable track record…………which is more than anybody can say for Favre.

Whichever state your parents came from.

  42. All this Pack/Vikes talk has grown tiresome. The football Gods have great disdain for that $hitful division.

  43. I wonder what those “Yahoo!” people have to say about it?
Maybe from now on we should rely more on reputable search engine’ sports reporters like Seymour Butt’s from Google Sports…
Maybe we could just Ask Jeeves he may know?

  44. I was just sitting here wondering what Brett’s up to. Thanks for scratching my itch Florio!

  45. How cool would it be to go to that school & be a WR or QB & have Favre there to practice with?!?!?!!!!!!
