No New Deal for Giants' Pierce In The Offing

The New York Giants aren’t working on a contract extension for linebacker Antonio Pierce, a stance that’s unlikely to change despite his previous request for a new deal, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday.
Per the report, which cited sources, the Giants are firm on not working out a new deal for Pierce.
Signed to a $26 million contract in 2005, Pierce is under contract for two more seasons.
According to NFL Players Association records, Pierce is due a $4.35 million base salary this year and a $4.75 million base salary in 2010.
Pierce recorded 95 tackles and two sacks in 15 starts last season.  In eight NFL seasons, Pierce has registered 631 career tackles, eight sacks and seven interceptions.

  1. First off, he is under contract. Second, if he wants it reworked – he must play better. My feeleing, being an Eagles fan, is that Pierce was absolutely terrible against the Eagles last year. The Eagles totally exploited him and made him a gaping hole in the defense. If he cannot play against the Eagles, the best team in the division, then why should they rework his deal. First prove you can play against the Birds, then they will talk about reworking or extending the deal. From my point of view, they would be better off replacing him with someone more effective. But, of course, I only saw him play a few games against the Eagles and maybe a couple of national games. His numbers look OK, but when he is a key component of a couple of losses – they mean shit. Kind of like DeMarcus Ware sucking against the Eagles. Remember that time he almost got the sack record and then BOOM 44-6 and Romo Fainted (thanks for that 44-6and Romo Fainted).

  2. i’m just short of seventy,i could beat him in a foot race.
i don’t know what happened to him,he seems to have lost several steps in a short amount of time.whatching him last year was particularly
painful,it seemed like every tight end crossing the formation was two to three steps ahead of him.
jerry reese will not give him a new contract, pierce is not worth more money than he’s getting now.
pierce in the past has played well for the team, but i think he’s on the down side of the mountain,i’m sad to say.

  3. He gets lost in coverage too much, he’s not slow, sometimes he thinks the pass is made and stops covering, other times he can’t keep track of the guy. He’s got the smarts to call out the play and can play the run well. But one of the reasons they signed Bolley is to cover TE’s and RB’s which Pierce cant do.

  4. He’s got 2 years left on his contract which will be his last 2 years as a Giants. The past 2 years he’s been on a steady decline, and I love the guy to death as a Giants fan, but I’d like my team to get a young and talented MLB to work behind Pierce and learn his training techniques and leadership skills
I do believe Pierce can still play 2 more solid seasons, but no extention. Maybe in 2 years he can join Plaxico to the Jets. lol

  5. a.p. should read the tea leaves.
the philly system the giants ran under spags does not value the linebacker position as much as the other defensive positions. thats why philly keeps running low cost linebackers out there and has let a long list of linebackers come and go (shawn barber, trotter twice, barry gardner, carlos emmons, mark simoneau, dhani jones) rather than pay them.
the other posters are right in that pierce’s best days are past. the giants have absolutely no incentive to pay him more, and every incentive for getting rid of him as soon as they have a comparable and less expensive alternative.
and that doesn’t even take the fact that he was with plexiglas when he shot himself and took the gun over the state line after the fact.

  6. The reason Pierce is slow (besides being fat) is the giant fork stuck in his back. He’s done. Let’s move on.

  7. Obviously his answer is to refuse to re-work his deal and to go elsewhere when he is cut as a cap casualty, assuming he has somewhere else to go.

    ****
Absolutely correct. However, I have a hard time agreeing with the Philly system of devalued linebackers. They make up 3 of the 11 players on the field. How can they not be important? Maybe the Eagles would be better against the run and TEs would not do so well against them if they cared about that 27% of the people on the field. Just saying. It does not seem to make sense to have an undersized DL and linebackers that you do not care about. Hey, maybe the new system will work out for Pierce next year – but now is not time to be asking for money. Reese could bring him into the tape room and say that judging by this tape you owe us money back.

  9. Isn’t he a RosenWhore client…….I guess drew doesn’t twitter lost causes……..

  10. oh yeah, and being Placico’s sidekick during
the shooting, hiding the gun, and getting
“special” attention by the exotic dancer like
3 month after his marriage, none of THAT
enters into the Giants thinking, right?
And then, who makes this extension request
but Satan Rosenwhorse. That is a combination
that screams “shut the F up and play”.
Perhaps you could get Antoine, errrrrr, Anquan Bouldin, with the
same 2 years remaining AND the same whore-
of-an-agent to exchange notes on the trials
and tribulations of having $10 million bonus
money IN THE BANK but needing more.
Drew is turning all his clients into whores, just
    like Drew.

LOL…your a jerkoff. The Cowboys and the Giants are both gonna pound the Eagles this year. The Eagles won 9 games last year and only backed into the playoffs because of their tie with the Bengals. (and Plaxico being a moron.) So calm down Turbo. If it wasn’t for the Redskins being well the Redskins, the Eagles would have finished in the basement where they belong.

  12. He hasn’t been the same since the shooting and he wasn’t a HOF before the incident. Last year playing for NY. They will sign a free agent next year, which is how they got Pierce, and he’ll get cut.

  13. Pierce is overrated…by himself. He is a decent middle linebacker, but is MUCH better against the run than the pass. He needs to trim down so he can keep up in coverage. He looked really slow last season, especially against the Eagles in the playoffs. It was a tough loss to swollow, and watching his pudgy gut chasing Westbrook was embarrassing.
Pierce needs to learn from the Plaxico ordeal that EVERYONE is expendable. Keep your mouth shut and play….well, play better!
