Former NFL High School Coach Of the Year Shot In Head, Wounded

Legendary Iowa high school football coach Ed Thomas, who has coached NFL players Aaron Kampman, Brad Meester, Jared DeVries and Casey Wiegmann, has been shot in the head and hospitalized, according to the Des Moines Register.
Thomas, a former NFL High School Coach of the Year, was reportedly shot at point-blank range in the weight room at Aplington-Parkersburg High School and was flown to a hospital for treatment.
A suspect is in custody. According to the Waterloo Courier, the alleged assailant is “a young individual.”
Thomas, who has been coaching at the school for nearly 30 years, has won almost 300 games and the school’s football field is named after him.
Thomas has been instrumental in rebuilding the team’s football field after a tornado ravaged the town last summer and destroyed his home.
