Dr. Andrews On Favre: “He Wants To Play For The Vikings”

And the evidence continues to point overwhelmingly to quarterback Brett Favre eventually (or sooner) joining forces with the Vikings.

The most recent nugget is buried in a July 3 interview of Dr. James Andrews, courtesy of the Clarion-Ledger.

“I’m not supposed to say anything but Brett kind of let that cat out of the bag on that HBO show,” Andrews said, referring to an initial episode Joe Buck Live that has been more remembered for Artie Lange’s attempt to hijack it. “I did [Favre’s] shoulder a few weeks ago. I visited him in Hattiesburg two weeks ago. He wants to play and he wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings. He wants to end his career on a high note and I hope he can. He’s a tough guy, a great guy. I’m pulling for him. He wants to play. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough.”

Apparently, Andrews’ recent follow-up with Favre did nothing to derail the seemingly inevitable return from his Second Annual Retirement.

And, even more apparently, the same motivation that prompted Favre to play in 2008 is still driving him to return again -- a desire to stick it to Ted Thompson.

Maybe initially I came back for the wrong reasons,” Favre told ESPN after his one season with the Jets. “It was like, ‘OK, [the Packers] don’t want me to play, then I’ll play somewhere else and show them I can still play.’”

Whether he can still play one year removed from his failed effort to show the Packers he can still play through the end of December remains to be seen, and the answer likely hinges on how well Dr. Andrews fixed Favre’s throwing arm.
