McNair’s Mom Calls Shooting “The Devil’s Work”

The mother of quarterback Steve McNair, who was shot four times and killed on Saturday, tells Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that she doesn’t care to know the identity of the person who pulled the trigger.

“I don’t want to know,’' Lucille McNair said. “Because the way I see it, it was the devil’s work and not God’s work.’'

Though the same can be said of any intentional taking of human life, it rarely is articulated in such simple yet eloquent terms.

“I’m not mad,” she added. “I am just grieving over my son. He was a great son. He was special.”

McNair’s mother and other family members plans to travel from Mississippi to Nashville this week. A public memorial has been scheduled for Thursday in Tennessee, with a Saturday funeral in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Police have yet to classify the incident as a double homicide or a murder-suicide; 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi was found dead with a single gunshot wound, and the weapon under her body.

Authorities have said that no suspects are being pursued-- but maybe the police are simply saying that so that anyone who might be under suspicion will let his or her (or their) guard down.
