Pacman Jones waiting for a call

With the lone exception of trouble-prone, unemployed cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones’ rowdy appearance on the Pros vs. Joes television program, there hasn’t been much football in his life since being cut loose by the Dallas Cowboys.

Now, Jones is hoping the telephone will ring and that he’ll get yet another shot at playing in the league.

Jones’ agent, Worrick Robinson, told Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper that it’s unlikely that the former Tennessee Titans and Cowboys defensive back will be signed by a team early in training camp.

Currently, Jones has no contract offers.

“We realize that anywhere he goes, we would expect that it’s going to be a media circus and people take the focus off the team and try to make it about him,” Robinson said. “I’ve talked to a couple of teams that said they might be more interested in getting into the first weekend or so of camp, settling in and then maybe taking a look at him, because it would be such a circus when he comes to town. . . .

“We’ve talked to several teams. We’re going to go with who makes the right offer and the best offer. We’re still waiting for the first formal contract offer.”

Jones got into a fight with his bodyguard at a Dallas hotel last season and was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before being reinstated. Then, Jones was cut by Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones after the season.

Robinson said that Jones isn’t exploring the United Football League at this time.

“We really haven’t talked about the UFL,” Robinson said. “I haven’t had any discussions with them, nor has Pac. We’re really not communicating with the UFL right now, only the NFL.”

UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue, who used to represent Jones, confirmed that he hasn’t been in contact with Jones about joining the new football league.

As for the Pros vs. Joes appearance, Jones got into a fight with a diminutive former Holy Cross linebacker.
