Mack’s deal is official

Earlier Saturday, PFT broke the news that Browns first-round pick Alex Mack had agreed to terms with the team.

The Browns have now confirmed the move is official through a press release.

Mack’s deal is for five years. This site’s fearless leader reports that he’ll earn a 12.2 percent increase in guaranteed money over the No. 21 pick of last season’s draft.

The Browns didn’t draft Mack to sit on the bench. He has a good chance to displace Hank Fraley as the team’s starting center. He could also possibly play guard as a rookie.

Eric Mangini hopes that Mack and left tackle Joe Thomas will provide the foundation for an excellent offensive line for his tenure in Cleveland.

He tried the same tactic in New York with Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson to good, not great, results.
