Mason placed on reserve/did not report list

The Baltimore Ravens placed veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason, who announced his plans to retire two weeks ago, on the reserve/did not report list, according to a league source.

The designation means that Mason will not count against the NFL roster limit of 80 players during training camp. Mason can be activated from that list at any time should he decide to return.

Wide receiver Demetrius Williams said he hasn’t spoken with Mason since last week, but he didn’t venture a guess on whether Mason will play this season.

“I really don’t know,” Williams said. “A guy can go home and sleep on it and the next thing you know, he doesn’t want to play anymore. Or he might wake up in the morning and say, ‘I want to play.’

“You never know. It’s a decision that he’s going to have to make. Whatever decision he makes, we’re going to be happy. If we get him back, that’s a great plus, and if we don’t get him back, we’ll understand.”
