No indictment for Pierce

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce will not be indicted in connection with the Plaxico Burress gun case.

Pierce’s lawyer, Michael Bachner, told Paolantonio that the grand jury voted against an indictment.

An announcement regarding whether Burress has been indicted is expected to come soon.

In all candor, the absence of an indictment means that the grand jury opted to ignore the letter of the law, which imposes criminal liability upon anyone who has possession of a loaded and unlicensed firearm in New York. It’s possible that the Giants employees who testified helped to exonerate Pierce by testifying that they told him to take the gun to Burress’ wife.

Even so, possession is possession. And Pierce got a gift from the grand jury.

Whether Burress gets one remains to be seen.
