Tommie Harris admits to March knee surgery

Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris has been missing practices during camp, and now the reason has been disclosed.

Per the Vaughn Harris of the Chicago Tribune, Harris admitted on Monday that, in March 2009, he had arthroscopic knee surgery.

The procedure was aimed at clearing out scar tissue and examining the knee.

Coach Lovie Smith said on Saturday that he anticipated that Harris would practice on Monday. Harris said he sat out due to a hamstring problem, but Smith said it was due to the knee.

“Right now I don’t want him to be out there,” Smith said. “It’s as much me as it is him. I don’t want him to be out here until he’s fully ready to go.”
