Is Spielman on board with Favre acquisition?

So where does Vikings V.P. of player personnel Rick Spielman stand on the acquisition of quarterback Brett Favre?

It’s a good question, and we don’t know the answer because Spielman has kept his head low and mouth shut throughout the extended courtship and ultimate acquisition of Favre.

The fact that Spielman didn’t attend Tuesday’s press conference introducing Favre has caused some to conclude that Spielman disagrees with the move. And we’re hearing some rumblings indicating that perhaps he isn’t completely on board.

But don’t get your popcorn ready.

“Rick is a company man,” one league source told us. “He won’t say a thing about it.”

Still, there’s reason to think that Spielman would have preferred to go forward with the quarterbacks on the roster, especially since Sage Rosenfels, who is in Minnesota due in large part to Spielman’s efforts, seemed to be in position to win the job.

Regardless, Spielman doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy who’ll cause trouble in the wake of Favre’s arrival, whispering negative thoughts into the ears of ownership if the team struggles.

Besides, Spielman doesn’t need to. “Chilly” (as Favre calls him) has gone all in on this one. If it fails, Chilly is the one who’ll be out in the cold.
