Report: Owners agree to extend NBC deal by two years

We mentioned Tuesday that the NFL owners, who are in Chicago for a five-hour business meeting, could vote to extend the broadcasting deal with NBC by two years.

According to Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal, the voted has occurred.  And the extension has been approved.

Per Kaplan, an announcement is expected soon.

The extension makes all of the rights deals run through 2013, setting the stage for a high-stakes game of musical chairs.

  1. “The extension makes all of the rights deals run through 2013, setting the stage for a high-stakes game of musical chairs.”
At which point, the NFL announces “NFL Dish TV”, broadcasting every game plus crappy NFL related content (finally, a home for PFTV!) on 256 channels 24/7. First thing on the air? 32 owners executing the golden goose.

  2. I wonder if/what penalties there will be if there is an owner forced lock out in 2011? Kind of silly to be making TV extensions knowing there is a high possibility of a lock out. Just another reason I am optimistic there will be a new CBA in place.
