Bills are surely nervous about Fred Jackson

The Buffalo Bills wisely worked out a contract in the offseason with running back Fred Jackson, an exclusive-rights free agent (i.e., not a free agent at all) who’s in line to start while Marshawn Lynch serves a three-game suspension.

But Jackson left practice Tuesday with a wrist injury. Per Rodney McKissic of the Buffalo News, Jackson was injured after stumbling over a lineman during 11-on-11 drills.

After practice, coach Dick Jauron explained that the injury is above the thumb, in the wrist area.

With the regular-season opener less than three weeks away, the Bills surely are hoping that Jackson will be back soon. Otherwise, Dominic Rhodes would get the call, with Xavier Omon spelling him.

Several veterans are still available, including Warrick Dunn, Shaun Alexander, and (thanks to Edgerrin James joining Alexander’s old team) T.J. Duckett.
