Herremans has surgery, will miss opener

The Eagles will have to keep on wondering what their full offensive line will look like for a little while longer.

After they beat the Jaguars on Thursday night, Andy Reid announced that left guard Todd Herremans needs surgery, planned for Friday, to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.

The team thought that he just needed rest for a stress reaction, but an MRI revealed the fracture.  Reid wasn’t explicit with the timetable for his return beyond saying he’d “miss a couple of games here.”

The news followed a game that saw left tackle Jason Peters return to the lineup, as well as the preseason debut of right guard Stacy Andrews.  The other injured Andrews brother, right tackle Shaun, is expected to take part in some of Saturday’s practice session.  He’s been sidelined since aggravating his back injury on the first day of training camp.

The Eagles’ line looked shaky at times during Thursday night’s game, and will likely continue to have issues without the benefit of working together at all during training camp.

Nick Cole, who made seven starts in the regular season and playoffs in 2008, will take Herremans’s place in the starting lineup.
