Some of you disagree with our assessment that Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora threw a tantrum on Monday because of unspoken (in the past year) frustrations regarding his contract.
Here are some facts for your to consider in this regard.
Umenyiora’s base salary for 2009 is $2.55 million. He also receives a $500,000 roster bonus and a per-game roster bonus of $31,250 for each game in which he’s on the 53-man roster, for a total possible take of roughly $3.6 million.
Next year, which currently is on track to be uncapped, Umenyiora’s total compensation will be roughly $4.2 million.
So, yeah, it looks like Umenyiora is underpaid. And, yeah, after seeing those numbers we’re even more convinced that he was predisposed to blowing a gasket on Monday because of lingering frustrations with his contract.
