49ers make their cuts

The San Francisco 49ers just announced the 20 cuts they made to get down to the 53-man limit.

The unlucky group is made up of tackle Jacob Bender, tackle Alex Boone, wide receiver Dobson Collins, defensive end Pannel Egboh, tight end Joe Jon Finley, cornerback Eric Green, guard Kyle Howard, cornerback Terrail Lambert, fullback Brit Miller, defensive tackle Khalif Mitchell, linebacker Jay Moore, tight end Bear Pascoe, wide receiver Maurice Price, fullback Bill Rentmeester, linebacker Justin Roland, running back Kory Sheets, offensive lineman Matt Spanos, tackle Joe Toledo, linebacker Mark Washington and wide receiver Dominique Zeigler.

The biggest surprises on that list are probably Pascoe and Sheets. Pascoe was a sixth-round pick in April and the 49ers only kept two tight ends -- Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker -- on their 53-man roster.

Sheets had a very impressive preseason running the football. Carries are going to be hard to come by behind Frank Gore and Glen Coffee, however, which meant that Sheets was expendable. Based on his performance, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Niners try and sign him to the practice squad if he makes it through waivers.
