Saints cut the fat to reach roster limit

We’ve already let you know about some of the bigger names released by the Saints Saturday: Joey Harrington and Paul Spicer, among them.

The rest of the team’s cuts don’t include many players with NFL experience, but there are some promising young skill position players on the list.

Wide receiver Adrian Arrington, a 2007 seventh-round pick who has wowed onlookers when he’s been healthy, has been cut.  Young running backs P.J. Hill and Herb Donaldson were also released.  (The Saints are rolling with three four tailbacks.  UPDATE: We originally forgot Lynell Hamilton, who has been impressive.  Never forget Lynell!)

Other Saints cut on Saturday: Guard Nate Bennett, tackle Michael Brown, center Digger Bujnoch, guard Tim Duckworth, cornerback Danny Gorrer, wide receiver Skyler Green, defensive tackle Earl Heyman, tight end Martrez Milner, tackle Jeremy Parnell, defensive tackle DeMario Pressley, wide receivers Matt Simon and Courtney Roby, linebacker Anthony Waters, and guard/tackle Anthony Davis.

Pressley was a fifth-round pick of the Saints in 2008.  Davis played five years for the Bucs.

Milner was released when the Saints acquired David Thomas from the Patriots via trade.

Noticeably absent from the cut list: former A2 (Arena League’s minor league) receiver Rod Harper, who was quite a longshot to make the team.

Safety Chip Vaughn and fullback Olayani Sobomehin were also placed on I.R., ending their season.
