Shaun Smith among Lions cuts

The Lions list of roster cuts contains a few familiar names like wide receiver Keary Colbert, safety Stuart Schweigert, guard Milford Brown, and quarterback Brooks Bollinger. But the biggest surprise on the list also has the biggest mouth: defensive tackle Shaun Smith.

Smith arrived in Detroit after yapping his way out of Cleveland. Perhaps he’s just not that good a football player, because the Lions could certainly use a defensive tackle. (Or perhaps the Lions didn’t like Smith’s act after he reportedly chewed out Cleveland’s G.M. while in a Lions uniform two weeks ago.) PFT reported earlier that the Lions also released defensive tackle Chartric Darby Saturday.

Also released by Detroit: linebacker Rufus Alexander, tight end Carson Butler, defensive end Sean Conover, running back Tristan Davis, linebacker Zack Folett, center Dan Gerberry, seventh-round pick tight end Dan Gronkowski, wide receiver Dane Looker, safety Calvin Lowry, cornerback Ramzee Robinson, and linebacker Spenser Smith.

Robinson was “Mr. Irrelevent” in 2007’s draft and has lived up to the moniker. (Sorry Mrs. Robinson.) PFT reported earlier Saturday that kicker Billy Cundiff and wideout John Standeford were also let go.

The team also placed cornerback Chris Roberson on injured reserve.

With Detroit sending in their cuts and Miami’s on the way, only three teams have yet to disclose their roster cuts: Jacksonville, Indianapolis, and Denver.
