Dolphins drop David Martin

Tight end David Martin was good enough to start 22 games for the Dolphins over the last two years, gaining a career high 450 yards for the team in 2008.

But you can’t make the club in the tub, so the Dolphins cut ties with him Sunday. They are working to reach an injury settlement with the former Packer, who came to South Florida with expectations to break out as a receiving option. He was struggling with a knee injury.

Martin was cut to make room for rookie Davon Drew, a fifth-round pick of the Ravens.

Miami now leads the league in young tight ends, with two rookies and second-year player Joey Haynos behind starter Anthony Fasano.
