Falcons dump Jamaal Fudge

We say it every year: Guys who survive the cut to 53 players should keep the corks in the champagne bottles.

We say it because, every year, the collection of players who hit the market simultaneously sparks a game of musical chairs that routinely results in players who thought they had won a seat at the table getting thrown into a cabinet.

This year, it’s happened to plenty of guys since 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The latest victim? Falcons safety Jamaal Fudge.

Fudge, a Jacksonville native, signed with the Jaguars in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. He was cut in September 2008, and the Falcons claimed him on waivers.

He appeared in 11 games last year for the Falcons, with one start.

Fudge will now head to waivers, where he’ll undoubtedly be claimed by the Lions.

And we say that only half-jokingly. Former Jags V.P. of player personnel Shack Harris works in the Detroit front office now, and there’s a chance Harris will lobby for the Lions to give him a shot.

Of course, the adolescent-minded members of the audience have their fingers crossed that Jamaal will sign with Green Bay.

And that sentence was extremely difficult for me to type with my fingers crossed.
