Seymour still doesn’t show

The Patriots traded defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the Raiders on Sunday morning.

It’s now Tuesday evening, and Seymour has yet to show up.

A day after claiming that Seymour wants to be in Oakland and that the delay results from lingering financial issues between the player and his former team, Raiders coach Tom Cable has opted to act as if his jaw has been wired shut because it was broken after someone threw him out of a chair and into a cabinet.

“I don’t want to comment on [Seymour’s status] until we have something that’s done and concrete,” Cable said, according to Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune.

Per Corkran, a person close to Seymour said Monday night that Seymour was caught off guard by the trade, and that he’s sorting through his emotions and mulling his options.

The options are simple. Show up, or don’t. If he doesn’t show up, he risks placement on the reserve/left club list, which would prevent him from playing for anyone in 2009.

There’s a rumor floating around that Seymour wants the Raiders to promise they won’t use the franchise tag on him in 2010. But why would the Raiders give up a first-round pick in 2011 for a guy who would be on the team for only one season, especially when his potential contributions for the first game of said one season will be minimal, given that he has yet to report for work.
