McNabb on board with Garcia return

It was widely believed in Philly that, after Jeff Garcia stepped in for Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb (torn ACL) during the 2006 season and led the team to five straight victories and a playoff win, McNabb wanted the man who had become the toast of the town to not be offered a new contract.

And so he wasn’t.

But now that McNabb has a broken rib and the Eagles have only one healthy quarterback on the active roster and that quarterback is a second-round pick from 2007 who has been a bust to date, McNabb is welcoming Garcia back to town.

Adding Jeff Garcia to the roster is a great idea,” McNabb writes at his Yardbarker blog. “He knows our offense and how we do things around here. He’s a great teammate and I look forward to working with him again.”

That’s fine, as long as Garcia is willing to embrace his role as a short-term emergency option.

And that’s what it is, unless McNabb’s injury is worse than the Eagles are admitting.
