Zorn confirms Thomas is headed for IR

Florio, right again. Redskins right guard Randy Thomas has a complete tear of his right triceps and will be placed on injured reserve, Redskins coach Jim Zorn said today at his press conference.

“He felt it pop so we’re going to get that repaired,” Zorn said.

Thomas, 33, is in his 10th season. He signed a six-year deal with Washington in March of 2007 that carries salaries of $3.7, $3.1 and $4 million over the next three seasons.

Utility lineman Will Montgomery stepped in for Thomas on Sunday. For a Redskins team that is sputtering in key situations, the loss of the talented Thomas doesn’t help that cause.

We just asked former Redskins left guard Pete Kendall, who is currently a free agent, whether the Redskins have contacted him and if he’s interested in playing again.

“No and yes,” Kendall replied via text message.
